Bought in 2000 for my previous car now installed in the SC.
A bit slow to search for things by today's standards since its DVD based but does the job.
Voice recognition is sweet! |

Main unit sits under the passenger seat. The extra 6 feet of wiring for the Navi loom are stuffed under the carpet to keep things relatively neat.
The GPS receiver sits on the dash level with the defogging vents and its wire is tucked under the top edge of the vinyl dash covering. All nice and unobtrusive.
Because the MR2 has a mechanical speedometer I had to add a speed pulse generator (see pic) between the gearbox output and the speedo cable. Getting at the speed cable is a bit of a bear on SC's so had to remove the intercooler first.
The reverse gear lead was run through to the rear boot and attached to the reversing lamp.
The voice recognition microphone is velcroed onto the headlining at the top of the A-post cover.
Along with its gyro, the speed pulse and reverse signal allow the Navi to dead-recon what direction its travelling in and how fast when it doesn't have a satellite signal (which is most of the time in a built-up area). Without the speed pulse the Navi position jumps around all over the place and can be half a mile out! |
