Best RTV for oil pans

As per the title, I've got a tube of the standard Toyota stuff, anyone know of any better products?

without sounding like a total noob....whats an RTV? never heard of that on a mk1 before? its not one of those dodgy channels on the digi box is it? :shock:

you suprised me there Paul, would have thought you would have known what that is. Its intant gasket stuff to you and me, I reckon RTV is a silicon based one that set, unlike some of the others.

Limey anyone should do the job ,as long as you put enough on and follow the torque settings correctly, keep it clean, blah blah blah. You get the picture.
The sealant is only a tiny part, its how clean the joint is when you put it back together that counts. hth.

well thats a first,never heard of RTV before,always called it sump sealant or gasket cement,you learn something new every day!

Sorry Yankee terminology coming out, stands for Room Temperature Vulcanising. I've seen all sorts of different RTV silicone sealants it's damn confusing!

I've got a spare sump pan etc to get nice and clean before I do the job (oil seals, yay!).

Yankkee terminology arrghhhhh! ;)

Its not an 'oil pan' its a 'sump' thats it just one word and its English!
