HI, i currently own a 87 MK1 MR2 late spec, (air filter in boot) i have just orderd a 57i K&N filter kit,
Was wondering what is the actual job of an air expansion box (Resonator)?
has anyone fitted one of these 57i kits to a late spec?
Thanks

Re: Air filtration upgrade
I put one on my late spec mk1 - very easy job. Oh my, what a noise it makes
I think the resonator box is to quieten things down.

Re: Air filtration upgrade
I have a sneaking suspicion that the resonator box has something to do with the pulsing of the intake.
You can throw it away however and stick the filter straight on to the throttle body which though doesn't do great things for air intake temps sounds fantastic.

Yeah, I must admit I haven't driven on a hot day with the filter bolted straight onto the throttle body... I'll see what happens next summer.
Are there any air intake temp gauges you can make/buy? It'd be interesting to compare filter location with temps.
