Faulty side repeater

Post by leewaring »

Drivers side side repeater on my mk2 rev1 is a little dodgy.

Doesn't light up. But if I tap it it starts working. Faulty wire me thinks but then the same thing has started happening to the drivers front indicator too?? Will this be the same faulty wire affecting both units? If so which one?

Afraid I was always pants at electronics at school so a 'Idiots guide' to solving this problem would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Leewaring.I had this with my rear indicator. Had it off to check loose connections, wd40 everywhere.... but still faulty, but if I hit the lense the bulb would light up for a bit. Turns out it was a faulty bulb! Of all things!
The things been fine since!#

I know, thought a bulb was either ok or knackered, not just knackered when it wants to be!
Oh well. at least it wasn't anything complex :)

Sorry to sound a nerd, but i found out why this kind of thing happens..!! Filament type bulbs are made with such fine wire that they easily break, but if you tap them when they're fired up the filament can weld itself back together and work..!! Albeit for a short time, another knock (bump in the road) could break it again.

One thing to get rid of it is to fit LED replacements, you can get LED's in pretty much all the fixings for your MR2 - 501 etc.

Just purchased some white / blue tint sidelights for mine from

http://www.ultraleds.co.uk

damn good value for money and 100,000 hours life to boot..!!
