Our silver rust bucket

Post by Speedy »

Absolutley as Toyota intended '87 mk1, apart from new rear calipers/fluid/sills and tyres. Superb little track-day car, has done Anglesey, Cadwell and now Donny. Front brakes get a little tired after a few good laps, but nevermind. Bridgestone tyres allow you to carry lots of speed through corners, esp. compared to A539s in the wet - excellent fun.

Only gripes are with corrosion taking it's toll on the underside of the car and braking system. Have broken an extension bar, drive converter and a socket trying to get various parts off - which have all come off eventually. When we were replacing the rear calipers, one of them was frozen solid onto the 'floating' pin. Required hot water+hammer+concrete block to work it off (PlusGas just didn't touch it). Currently running stock air-filter (hasn't changed since we bought it), Mobil1 (which was changed before Anglesey) and had a coolant change as well.

Assuming all goes well, expect to see this car at future trackdays :)
