big power rev2

Post by bodleytunes »

Wooo nice new site!!! hello!!!!!!!!!!!

anyway heres my Q...

Ive had my rev 2 tubby for nearly 2 years now, originally i was gonna upgrade to a rev3, but im having such a hard time selling it, i cant be ar$ed with the hassle of the selling and might just mod this car.

Just wondering what the steps would be to get 300+ bhp or torque?

thinking of this

Profec electronic boost controller
greddy emange
big intercooler
bigger injectors 550s?
bigger turbo ... what type?
boost set to 15-18psi?
nur spec exhaust.

With these mods are the differences between rev2 and rev3 negligable?

a 330ci beemer kept up with me the other day so i need to get some serious power and start saving!! :)

inabit,

bodley.

if you getting kept up with by a 330ci there's something wrong :(.

a td06 turbo at one bar should see you do away with a 330ci bmw......ask paul about it ;)

Agree, you should eat a 330Ci.

Get it on a RR to get a baseline first (and a damn good check over)

How much do you have to spend?

If it were me and I'd be happy with 300-350hp

Ap-Engineering power FC for rev 2 - 500 quidish new
Either TD06 / KO racing street brawler - about 1200-1300 (second hand in the US for around 800 + shippin and taxes)
ST205/ST185 chargecooler, pump and radiator - 500 ish fitted
Injectors + pump + rail - 350 + 80 + 160

That'll see approx 300hp at 1.2 bar easily. But budget around 300 quid mapping the FC and labour for fitting the bits if you cant yourself.

The next stage would really be cams + cam gears - 550 + fitting (more if you do valve springs too). Another bout of mapping too.

Takes you to around 300 at the wheels at the same boost I'd imagine.

Well there aint nothing wrong with my car, coz i did a 14.3 quarter mile at york on my first ever go, and after that did 14.5 all day which is about right aint it?

Thing is it seems too build boost very slow and sometimes the little needle only goes up 3/4 its like its boosting saftey mode a lot more than normal maybe?

or maybe the beemer was an m3 but it was dark blue and i not seen dark blue ones before?

Ive got a fuel cut defender and a grainger valve lying around but not had chance to fit it yet. if i put that on will it stop the stupid boost probs?

cheers,
Bodley.

and anyway i dont agree that a standard 220bhp car should "eat" a 330ci.

330ci is not much heavier than an mr2 but has a lot more torque so once its rolling, which it was coz we were doing like 30mph at the beggining of the road, beemers are pretty fast at speed so i cant see my near standard car blitzing it!!

You lazy southerner, how long have you been threatening that !!!

And to add, a 330 isn't a slouch either ... your talking 250+ bhp, 6 pots and 3 litres of car .... it'll have some top end speed if it hasn't got the point and squirt around the town.

That first lot should see you to 300bhp easily on 1 bar on a td06 i reckon. I know american figures are a bit you but a few guys have made 320rwhp on that same setup. They have also ran 12.5's down the quatermile. So they have the power.

I agree .... I just thought 1.2 bar would be more undisputable power wise :D

The key factor to look at for hp and 1/4 mile is the speed across the line. Highest I managed was consistant 111-113mph but it was on a 12.7 run, horsepower wise that suggested 285-290rwhp.

Ahh .. yeah. Cheapest option for 300hp, a bottle of nitrous and a 50 shot :D

on "their" 320rwhp.

BTW does 14.39@97 sound okay for a near standard car, exept for a hks induction kit n a hks half system - still has cat.

That was with crap slick back tyres too got much grippy ones on now!

Consistent 115mph trap speeds suggest around 300rwhp - but obviously factors can vary. Bad fuel that day etc Not all yank numbers are b0llocks - just some of them :)

Needs pistons and a rebuild to run 350bhp on any MR2 for more than a couple of weekends.

Rebuild the engine properly, then start bolting on big turbos :)

Well a 330 has 230 bhp and about 220lb foot torque - book speeds of about mid 6s to 60 and 16ish to the ton - i would have though straight line wise a turbo would put it in it's place - aren't you looking at 13s/14s to the ton?

As for a 330d although it has more torque than an e46 m3 i really can't see it out shifting one once they are both up and running - you are looking at nearly 150bhp down with only 20lb/ft more torque. They are really impressive on motorways for pulling out speed in higher gears - but i still would think that booting one against the other would leave the turbo (or the M3!) ahead. Again straight line comparison only,

Well my thoughts anyhow! :)
