Hi guys/gals.
Anyone have a recommendation on clutch for my rev2 turbo. I'm hoping to at some point run ~300hp.
ive had a look on ebay and most seem to be XTD clutches from the US.
ive looked through older threads and have found the exedy stage 1 being recommended quite a lot. but also the competition clutch stage 4.
Car will be streetdriven, but a weekend car so happy enough to have something slightly stiffer than stock.
Cheers
Ross.

same question from me too!
Its a rev 2 also and prob wont reach 300bhp. The current clutch seems ok and looks meaty but as the engine is out, i might as well replace it.
I was thinking a standard oem / exedy clutch?

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] current recommended clutch kit
Just get a standard OEM clutch for anything upto and around 300hp, that way you keep your drivability, a uprated clutch will likely to be snappy and noisy that's from experience. Unless you are planning on tracking it regularly then you won't need to upgrade.
Also, the standard clutch will likely last a lot longer on a street driven car.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] current recommended clutch kit
Just make sure it's a genuine one before you buy.
Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] current recommended clutch kit
And throw away the throwout bearing that comes with it and buy an OEM one.
Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] current recommended clutch kit
Funny you should say that gazza, i was going to mention it but thought a OEM one would be ok. I have a ACT HD clutch in mine and fitted that bearing it lasted about 300 miles. Ended up putting a Blueprint OEM one in and its been fine since. The engine builder uses them for most of his cars and has no bother.
All in all as you say probably best to lob it and get a genuine one or a well known OEM .

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] current recommended clutch kit
The one that came with my Exedy on my NA went noisy within 5k miles, one on the turbo within about 1k miles. Lesson learned now!
Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] current recommended clutch kit
OEM is fine. Toyota or Exedy.
Just make sure you get a genuine Toyota throwout bearing. You really dont want to have to pull the box in a few miles because the Chinese TOB that came with the clutch fails.
FYI I ran 12.8 @ 110mph with a 1.9 60ft on a OEM clutch at the drag strip.

can you PM me the link, ill buy an OEM clutch release bearing at the same time.
Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] current recommended clutch kit
Wouldn't recommend the Exedy - it was toast after only a couple of thousand miles on my Rev 3 (maybe 300bhp).
Now running Competition Clutch stage 4 and it's much better and still very driveable

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] current recommended clutch kit
I fitted an Exedy stage 1 to my rev 3 turbo just under 2 years ago and have since covered about 15,000 miles on it. Mix of alpine driving in crazy cold and crazy heat, city driving stop - start etc, just about any condition the road will put a clutch through. No noises and the bite is still about 10mm from the firewall, same as when I fitted it. That being said, like many drivers on here I'm sure, I never ride the clutch, always in neutral with foot off even if its just for a few seconds. If you were to keep the clutch down for longer than 10 or so seconds I would think your left leg would remind you to put it in neutral
EDIT: also running as close to 300 as makes no difference

This is on an NA, but same principle... This is why the aftermarket / supplied throw out bearing is rubbish: https://streamable.com/6lf7s
That's not even a year old.

As Gazza says, they all use the same $2 release bearing.
Throw it in the bin and use OEM.
