Gen 2 to Gen 3 3SGE Engine Swap Questions

Post by dark_uk »

Hi All,

My Gen2 3SGE has spun a main bearing and I've grabbed a low mileage Gen3 3SGE and gearbox to replace it.

I've got the engine wiring loom for the Gen3 and and a the old engine and everything else is complete.

Apart from a matching ECU what else do I need for this conversion? Has anyone done it before that has some tips for me?

Cheers! :D

exhaust manifold

will need to re-pin some of the plugs that meet the chassis loom as there are some changes to wiring positions. This is the meat of the swap really.

think the igniter/coil is different

Take this time to do a major service on the new engine.

Ok so I need a suitable exhaust manifold, I guess the downpipe is the same though?

Does anyone know what will need repinning or a diagram of both? I do have the Gen3 loom so perhaps just a gen3 ecu will suffice?

I'll get a timing kit and also sort out the plugs, dizzy, leads, rotor etc.

I have the coil/ignitor for the new engine

There are guides on the net if you search for them. there isn't really that much to repin but the engine won't work until you do.

You NEED the rev3 ecu, rev2 will not work. careful not to get a later 3sge ecu as they won't work either.
