Turbo Blocks

Post by blogsy »

Got the chance to buy a rev5 turbo block and head with the strengthened water pump area. I'm just not sure that I'll be able to tell if it's a rev3 or rev5 by looking at that. any other ways to tell the difference, or has anyone got a picture of the rev3 pump area and the rev5 stronger pump area. Really would appreciate any help.

Check out my build thread. I have a REV 5 NA block with the stronger waterpump area.

Excellent, thanks Andrew just what I need. Why is the rev 5 N/A block going to be better than a rev 5 turbo block? :thumleft:

They're not better (or inferior), they're just easier to source than a rev5 turbo block.

Turned out not to be the stronger block. Would not have known if not for that advice about the squared off edge by the water pump, so thanks again. I'v been told that a week point is between cylinders 2 and 3.

A late 5S block addresses both of those issues.

2/3 weak spot tends to be the rev 3s as they had the poorest casting.

Once you hit 450-500+ it's a game of luck on the 3s.

It might last 2 minutes, or 30,000 no problem at 600hp.

To many little things that you need to research and change with the 5s block, like what water pump. Do you drill out the block to suit the 3s head or just use the head gasket that ATS make, Do you really need oil squirters etc etc. Would be great if someone could do a definitive wright up on how to put one together. But like androo says 3s is probably good enough for most peoples power needs.
