1990 MR2 Turbo Rev 1 SW20 MOT **Cheap* £1350

Post by v1xz »

MR2 Turbo - £1350
Standard engine
12 month MOT - 124k KM mileage
D2 Coilovers
Jap speed exhaust + B pipe
Rev3 rear light conversion
Retracting JDM wing mirrors
16" Sparco rare gold rims, staggered
New T-bar seals
Clifford G4 alarm system, 2x fobs - 2x keys
Aftermarket front bumper and side skirts
Half leather/Alacanta seats
Boost gauge installed on steering column

Engine is completely standard and hasnt been messed with. Ive replaced: oil, filter, coolant sensor, dizzy cap/arm, fuel filter, spark plugs. T-bars dont leak as they were changed, it would benefit from a complete geometry on all four corners due to installing coilovers and alloys.
Body has been painted in primer grey with a coat of lacquer on top by previous owner.
Im still awaiting the log book which was only sent last week.

Sadily there is a problem which i can not fix.
It will start and drive but after a few minutes into driving it will decided not to rev above 2.5/3k in any gear, if you turn car off and back on it will be fine for a few minutes again. I have noticed it will drive fine on the motorway when kept at normal speed. I have run out of time and could do with money due to new job.
I have done a compression test and got 165ish across all cylinders. As ive said it drives fine just something mechanical which stops it later on.

Any questions 07718991952

Does the engine light come on at 3k? Does error code 52 appear?

Check timing
Ignition components
Open up ecu and check for blown capacitors

It'll be one of those I bet!

Seems a shame to let it go low. Could you pay a garage 1 hours investigation time to check timing & other obvious culprits? Could add on a good amount to the value.

Ps photofuckit no longer available for forum use.

If it don't have a USB or something to plug a computer into that will tell them what's wrong my local mechanics don't have time to investigate.
Where are all the real mechanics gone?
I know it's a shame but I just can't waste anymore time.

I posted up here and less then a handful commented on what it could be. The high up gurus don't even answer anymore, busy???

What site to use for pics?

I use https://postimages.org/

Any mechanic can easily take the top cam cover off and check cam timing, along with a quick timing light. Where are you based? There are several specialists that could do it.

Forum dead these days......

Edit: Just read the other thread where it says you have 2 MAP related issues. I assume the person meant AFR by the fact it's rev 1.

Has the MAF / MAP sensor been replaced?
