MOT time..... What a Joke.

Decided my mr2 needed an MOT seeing thou' its first MOT ran out a few week ago. Anyway, for most of you who dont know anything about my car av a look at my profile, the only thing other to mention is that its only covered 8K miles from new.

Anyway this is how the MOT went......

Got the car into the garage and lifted up on the hydraulic ramps.

[MOT Guy]: Im gona have to fail this.

[Me]: Why?

[MOT Guy]: Its too loud......

[Me]: What do you mean, it was sufficient when it got measured for the last track day I went on.

[MOT Guy]: When was that?

[Me]: About 6 months ago.

[MOT Guy]: Well theres a new law thats come out saying I have to fail anything louder than standard.

[Me]: Well whats the decibel limit for standard?

[MOT Guy]: I dont know? Its just anything thats above it.

[Me]: So your failing me on something that your using your ears to measure, when you have no testing equipment, and failing me for being over the limit, when you have no idea what the limit is?

[MOT Guy]: Well yeah.

[Me]: Well your a xxxx pr1ck, get me car down off the ramps now......

Those of you who know me, know I have little or no temper, (and martin aka presser if your reading this, no im not on a course at the moment, but I am competing in september)

Anyway I lost it and the guy ended up on his ar$e. I realise I should have kept my cool but its been one of those weeks.

Anyway its booked into my mates garage, next tuesday for an MOT, should of took it there in the first place...

So what do you guys think, is it me or is this country getting more and more pathetic over car laws every day!

Quite right mate, this country/laws are definately getting more arsey. All the SVA malarky too.

What a xxxxx. I wonder how many decibels he thought it was. And of course its going to be loud in a garage, with the pipes at ear height!

Go back, knock him out again, just for good measure

the thing is he is right about the noise level it states that the car with a different exhaust must sound no louder than its standard counter part
now i can c your point of him havin no test equiment and he didnt know wot the level of noise was but its just says as standard
and this rule does really suck big co*k
even more so mine is now due and my exhaust is 120-130db ish so im 100% sure its not gunna pass

Its the first time id drove my MR2 in 8 months! It started first time
too, fantastic machines! Forgot how fast it was aswell!

I had exact problem some 10 years ago with my corolla, the chap failed it right away because the exhaust was too loud ... and that was back then !!!

The pee wee 1600 engine was still flowing through two silencers too !

Little to say, I took it elsewhere which passed it first time.

Some one asked on the old forum if there was a limit on exhaust noise. Thought I'd call and ask.

When I called and asked teh vehicle inspectorate people they said there is no limit. Only on new cars. There was only a limit on what cars are alowed to come out of the factory with. More a limit on what manufacturers are allowed to do.

I'd go back and tell him to show you where he's got that from. They should have a manual. Or just take it somewhere else.

If you mean the 18 inch work alloys then Yes I sold those beauties last year But the BBS LM'S look mighty fine and have transformed the way the car handles
