Hi and Looking for some advice on UK or Import

Post by chooch »

Hi there,

This is my first post, so I'll start with a little introduction. A few years back I used to own a nice G reg MR2. I think it's one of the best drives I've had since it was lowered and really stuck to the ground. Unfortunately I made a mistake when buying at that time G reg cars weren't shown on the Parkers handbook, so I thought I was buying a 150bhp car, when in fact it was the 120bhp variant from the Camry (and auto).

Now I'd like to get another MR2 N/A, but with more power, so was considering a 98 with a beams engine. However I just read some conflicting info that a beams engine might be more trouble than they are worth! My old car suffered some rot on the sills, which I think a lot of UK cars do. I was thinking of getting a Japanese import as they tend to be cleaner, however they seem to be slim pickings. So basically I'm looking for a clean trouble free car. Let me know if there are some clean UK cars and any general advice. thanks.

Thanks,
Ewan

P.S. tried to post a pic of old car but not allowed.

Yes, there are some clean UK cars around. Lots of rotten ones, but some very nice examples to be found.

There's a recent thread on the beams, have a read of it for opinions on them.
