[Mk2] [Turbo] Uniroyal Rainsport 2 -> ???

Post by b4ss »

Hi all,
I have been using rainsport 2s on my MR2 Turbo with 17inch rims for last few years - I really liked them - I need to replace them. The new rainsport 3 appear to be asymmetrical rather than directional thread pattern.

Anyone have any alternatives or thoughts on rainsport3s?
Thanks,
Tony

Is being asymmetrical an issue for you?

Go with the Rainsport 3's then. They are very similar to the RS2's, I know a few people who have run them and seem to like them.

The only complaints I've heard is they are a bit soft and wear quite quickly. But then for the price who can complain.

What sizes are you looking at for alternatives?

235/40/17 atm for 2 new rears...
was looking at Toyo Proxes T1 Sport and Hankook Ventus V12 Evo2 K120
The options are great here in Ireland :(

What width is the wheel? If it's 8J or over you can fit 245/40R17 which has some more options.

I run them on the MX5 - they put the Proxes to shame on wet roads, very predicatable.

Dry performance is ok. Not a bad compromise given their wet performance really

i use rainsport 3 as im in wales and its always bloody raining love them, even have them on my bravo lol over kill but on wet roundabouts amazing

i agree with them being soft the mr2 kills them lol
If you see an MR2 with a raised engine cover, the bottom line is it's probably faster than your car.

I wish we could get Rainsports over here from tyre dealers. No where to be seen probably for the last ten years.

Yep, Rainsports are notoriously soft.

Hankook Ventus V12 Evo is a good tyre. have a set on the car at the moment and was surprised at how good they are. great in the wet and dry.

the T1R is poor in the wet. It's a budget tyre with a sporty name. No idea why people like it, got rid of a set after 1500 mile as they were poo compared to other tyres.

goodyear asymmetric is good.

or the not quite as good in the wet but still great, and better in the dry goodyear eagle f1 gsd3

loads of choice for 17 wheels.
