when I floor it the boost kicks in then sputters/jerks pretty badly. this problem inst every time, the conditions will be the same and the car decides if it wants to sputter or not.

Check your HT leads are secure

the HT leads seem secure.

took the car out today, let it warm up and went down the country roads. WOT in 2nd gear caused some bucking and a backfire when I changed gear with a decent sized black cloud appearing in my mirror. other than that 1 instance the car boosted fine every other pull I did. idk if i cleared something or its just gonna be temperamental

When is the last time any of your ignition parts were changed?

I'd start with distribution cap and rotor arm.
Make sure your spark plugs are grade 7

HT leads would be last part as it's the most expensive

Black smoke is fuel so i reckon your losing spark somewhere.
Check coil and bracket and make sure the bracket and area it mounts to is clean as it earths through that.
And as above check all other ignition components.
