[Mk2] [Turbo] '3.4W test bulb' specified in service manual for testing coolant gauge

Post by toecutter »

I want to test the operation of my coolant gauge. The service manual covers this on page BE-55.

It specifies a '3.4W test bulb' to be used in the procedure (ground the harness connector through the bulb and the gauge should show hot).

Does it have to be exactly 3.4W? Tried a parts place and they didn't have any.

Should be able to work out what resistor is needed instead of a bulb.
All i can remember is v=ir which is currentxresistance =voltage. In this case it doesnt help lol

Shinny is an electrical genius so im sure he be around to tell you.

Just used an online calculator that does ohms law and putting in 12v and 3.4watts it equates to a 43ohm resistor?
Not sure if thats right tho.
