Been trying to avoid this for some time now but finally decided - the cambelt, clutch slave cylinder and turbo need sorting. The previous owner had also snapped a bolt so there's only 2 holding the exhaust to the turbo outlet.
I'm thinking I might gasflow the inlet side. Is this worth the effort or am I better doing something else that is made easier with the engine on the bench.
Oops - it's a 3SGTE MkII Rev2
thanks
Engine out - what else is worth doing while on the bench?

Re: Engine out - what else is worth doing while on the bench?
Waterpump replace the waterpump!!
Re: Engine out - what else is worth doing while on the bench?
Hoses from hell - dead cheap and 100% worth doing.
Re: Engine out - what else is worth doing while on the bench?
Remove box and flywheel and check clutch and crankshaft seal. Remove sump and check oil pick up and sump for debris.
Re: Engine out - what else is worth doing while on the bench?
Forged pistons have to go in.
Re: Engine out - what else is worth doing while on the bench?
Many thanks.
Water pump and seals defo.
I did the Hose from hell the hard way when I laid the car up for the winter. As I pulled more bits off to check & clean, and replace the stock I/C I noticed the clutch slave cylinder and oil in the turbo with plenty of shaft play. Hence the decision to pull the engine out and give it a good once over.
Forged pistons are out of my league for money to spend on her and I'm not to fussed about running big HP so this isn't a starter for a big project.
Reliability and a sound motor for a summer toy are the key factors.
I've got motorbikes for stupid performance.

Re: Engine out - what else is worth doing while on the bench?
If you are going to have the head flowed/ported then get both sides done and also reseat/cut the valve seats.
None of that really needed but if you want to do part of it anyway then why not get the rest done at the same time?
Other tasks while out...
Cam cover gasket
any gasket you disturb
front and rear crank oil seals
dizzy oil seal
cambelt + tensioner + idlers
water pump
thermostat
Clutch
maybe even alternator depending on condition

Happy to leave the gas porting off the list.
Clutch is a ceramic racing clutch - done by the previous owner so no worries with that. It's hard work at times but OK.
All other bits defo, and a good clean and probably repaint of the engine bay. She needs to be nice & shiny.
