So I have oil in all 4 cylinders. Work has been done failure?? Sad face

Post by [email protected] »

3sge engine no turbo. G limited
All the valve stem seals have been done. New head gasket.
Started it up seemed fine. Now a week later and oil on all four cylinders. Is it possible that all the piston rings can go? On all four pistons?? At the same time...

Is it possible that a hose has been connected incorrect sucking oil into the intake??

Did I fail at the stem seals? Thing is with stem seals is it burns oil on start up more. Whereas this is burning oil more when you rev the engine.

Have you got a compression tester?
do a dry and then wet test. shoud narrow it down to rings or head.

Looks like something's wrong with the recent work... Leak test the cylinders to narrow it down.

Theres a pic of cylinder 3... pretty much the same story on every cylinder. the walls look okay. little pool of oil on the angle of the piston.

could the cylinder drain holes be blocked?

for it to be all 4 cylinders... every valve seal would have to be dodgy. for it to be all 4 cylinders every oil piston ring has to be shot... on all 4 at the same time?

I will get a compression test done.

I had a 3s-ge in which all oil control rings had seized into the pistons. Consequently burned as much oil as it did petrol. I don't remember compression test results but it burned oil like crazy.

so all 4 went at the same time... okay so i think thats what has happened here. I dont think my work has failed. seems like piston rings

I'm not sure they all went at the same time, but i'm just saying there might be another reason for the visible oil. Does it kick out black smoke.

LOL, sorry there are some lol's in this thread,

Anyway just to balance it out, I recall some years ago if you ever did a head gasket on a 1.6 vauxhall motor with pretty high miles it smoked when you put it back together it was well known in the trade I never looked into myself but i recall lots of people talking about it, some said it was the oil rings sticking in no one ever explained why.

no help at all i know but sometimes it just happens.

Yeah. I suppose it's possible that because it was sat for a while in the garage not moving or doing anything the oil rings got stuck. But all 4? That's some bad luck right there

In regards to the head gasket being fitted incorrect. Nah I don't believe so all holes lined up. And wouldn't it be p1$$ing coolant all over.

I don't remember turning each bolt a further 90 degrees after torquing them up.

Did you check the surfaces of both the head and the deck with a straight edge and a feeler gauge prior to reinstall? there is a chance that the head it warped.

Was it a genuine head gasket?

Definitely said in the manual to do 90 degrees extra turn.
I was supplied the gasket and stretch bolts by tcb parts.
A friend has looked at it and he has a garage and thinks it's the piston rings. But I still am skeptical as all four??

I am struggling to believe all 4 failed at the same time.

Although even HG failure I would expect all 4 to get oil..

Well now you know, and it was all 4 at the same time :D
Sad thing is now new HG and other gaskets 'cos the bores will need a hone.

Should be a straight forward fix though. New big end bearings at the same time?
