hello chaps
ive got an 89 mr2-mk2.
its got a lot of problems atthe moment but its drivable and mot'd.
the main thing thats stopping me from repairing the list of jobs is the possibility that it may not be worth it if the gearbox has gone.
it slips out of 5th all the time- but if you hold the stick in place its happy to drive in it-with no noises whines etc.
does this suggest that the gearbox is wrecked or can there be wear in the stick mechanisms?
if its a gearbox out its beyond my ability to fix, but im up for having a go at a smaller solution.
thanks in advance fo your thoughts.

Check all the cable adjustment is correct. It could be worn out 5th gear selector. The selector can be replaced without removing the gearbox. just drop down far enough to remove the end cover then you can inspect the selector for wear and replace if needed.
