My fiancée and I are restoring a 1993 Toyota MR2 t-bar

Post by mattbearman »

Hi everyone,

My fiancée and I have just started restoring a 93 SW20 which we picked up for just £200 with an MOT.

We're doing a build log on YouTube, and have just published the first episode, so we'd love any feedback.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvXHW_wVi84

Also, if anyone can help identify the bypassed connector in the front (about 3:56 into the video) and the four unplugged connectors in the engine bay (about 5:10 into the video) that would be awesome.

Thanks,
Matt and Sophie

noticed the temp gauge wasn't sitting at half way.

Unless when you filmed the car was still running up to temp?

Would love to do a vid like this.

Cheers! The car had been running for a good hour at that point, I don't remember ever seeing the temp gauge reach half way during the journey :?

Guessing the thermostat could be stuck open? I'll add that to the ever growing list :) gonna do a full coolant flush and get a new rad anyway.

Either be that or the coolant temp sensor that does the gauge.

He left an entire wallet full of CDs and a satnav in the car?

Sell all that and you've got a sizeable percentage of the purchase price back. Although if it were me I'd ask him if he wanted his CDs back because I am nice like that

ps - if there are two of you please get separate accounts. I generally have to assume that anything Josh (JAAAAAASH) posts is actually his dad but you can never be sure.

Yeah, I was surprised, pretty good CD collection though, almost made up for the mouldy peanuts :)

I've already been in touch with the seller and I'm gonna be sending the CDs and satnav back. Would have felt wrong to keep / sell them.

Im in no way a prude, but the swearing sort of ruined the vid for me.

Its weird as i use foul language all the time and watch loads of vids with language like that in it lol but for some reason it just didnt feel right for me in this vid. Its not like there was a lot of it in the vid either but for some reason for me ,it was unnecessary.

However the rest of the vid was spot on - just less sh!t and f#ucks please!!

Thanks for the feedback. Not sure what to say, as the videos are completely unscripted, that's just how we talk

We've just uploaded episode 2, and I'm afraid there's just as much swearing in this one too.

Swearing comes hand in hand with owning an MR2 especially when trying to fix the beep beep beep thing

Me neither... i watch a variety of video blogs and there is no swearing or maybe the odd word but its not part of the language used throughout.
Sorry but not for me.

Can't please all the people, all the time, eh?

Although my channel will keep its language U-rated, I liked your irreverent and off-hand style :thumleft:

I watched it.... the bit where your taking off the wing goes on a bit too much and not sure what the cat thing was all about ?!?! However it was informative and i counted one swear word lol so all in all not bad at all.

Some bits are a bit cringy but then so it is on top gear, grand tour etc so like shinny says you can please us all lol

I rather enjoy this sort of home-brew youtube work, keep it up guys, the more cringe the better :cyclops: Subscribed and keen to see where this goes. Don't be too put off this forum by the comments on language etc, this is (probably) the most knowledgable corner of the internet for the MR2, and among the most responsive when asked for help.

I'm very interested in these videos. As someone who is tackling pretty much the same challenge on a '91 I'm hoping to get some tips and guides from your videos.
