URGENT! I've locked my keys in the boot!!!

I know it's stupid and ridiculous but I drop my keys in the boot and closed it 😡

I managed to open the doors but can't figure out how to open the boot.

Can anyone help?

Grind a hole in the boot

Easiest way has to be gently prising the drivers windowaway from the seal and feed a long piece of hooked wire down into the car, either go directly for the boot release or go for either of the door unlocks, maybe if it's a t bar it'll be easier.

Don't cut any holes yet!

nope, no other tricks apart from drilling out the lock. Top and bottom of lock with 3 or 4mm drill bit should do it, just don't go all the way through the lock you only want to remove the brass levers/pins then open with a screwdriver.

Is there not a rubber bung in the boot under the floor? You'd have to take the exhaust off and heat shield to get to it, to find a way of getting the boot open...

What about taking out the air filter pipework that is routed through the engine bay/boot bulk head? If you have a mk1b the hole is about 3inches in diameter...may have to break the interior pieces to get your hand through, but that could work?

The tail lights are only plastic, give access to the boot and are easily/cheaply replaceable. Smash/cut through one of those, stick an arm in and grab your keys.

Once you're in, you need to work out why your boot release doesn't work to save you next time!

Sorry man, I thought you'd just overlooked the boot release. Not sure if it's been suggested but if you do need to drill/grind go in from the bottom. You could weld it up with any old metal rather than destroy your bootlid.

Have a go at pushing your engine loom grommet through from the engine bay side, push your boot wall carpet off (it will break a few plastic clips at worst) and fish around with a torch/wire coat hanger before smashing or cutting into anything.

If the keys are in there then this method should work with enough patience.

I decided to take the seat out and carpet up to see why the boot release didn't work. Turned out this was screwed. So when back to my bicycle fixing days and sorted the cable out.

I may have broken the boot lock barrel though after putting a screwdriver in and getting frustrated!
