[Mk2] [Turbo] Bucket seat mounting options ?

Post by JLW »

Hi Guys

Im about to order a set or Corbeau Pro Series buckets for the motor,
luckily I dont live too far from their head office ( st leonards on sea )
and last Friday I went down to test fit etc.

The only thing that they cannot supply, well not for a price I want to pay anyways, is runners.

Basically I'm going to order them with side mounts, and had decided for now to bolt them to the floor in the current OE bolt holes,
But I'm not sure if this will work ? it seems there is a step in height between the rear mounts and front mounts. so my first question is , will this work ? lol

Second question, whats my best way to run these side mounts and retain forward and back movement ?
Any of you have a set for sale etc ?

thanks,

Jordan.

I just modified the stock rails. Weld on some universal brackets from eBay and jobs a good un! You'll still be able to slide back and forth, but the height will be set with side alan bolts. You have about 4 adjustments to play around with to get the right height. You'll probably find that the bottom one is the only one that fits in an MR2 though due to height restrictions. :)

yeah, I want to keep the seat as close to the floor as possible really.
I'm pretty average height at 6.2 but is still tall for this car.

Ive ordered Genuine Corbeau side mounts as well,
so not sure how happy I'd be welding these to stock sliders.
Its all about height really.

The Pro Series seat has very high side bolsters,

any more height with the OMP corsica
and I'll have inches to get in between lol.
Is there any low runners you can mount the side mounts too, such as your BRIDE one ?

Im guessing they are proper rare ?

I'm the same height, as is Largie & he uses Rogue's custom mounts for his bucket seat as they're the lowest he could find, otherwise he/we don't have the headroom & even then it's a tight fit with a helmet on.
He also has/needs a quick release boss for the wheel to get in and out.

They're around £125 delivered per side from Rogue although I have a spare drivers side unused I'd do for £100 delivered.

I've got a rogue sidemount on my seat, really nice quality part, sits the seat down nice and low, the only slight complaint I have is that even on the furthest back setting it's still a little close for me.. I'd love an inch or two more legroom but then it is a small car and I am quite tall (6'2")

Hi Guys

yeah after spending close to £1500 on two new seats I don't want to have to settle on the positioning,
as far back as possible for me is best, especially with the OMP corsica having 95mm dish being closer to me.

I have bought Corbeau side mounts and am just going to fix out straight to the floor for now,
it means the misses or shorter friends won't be able to drive it, but hey :D

Will anything needed to be done when bolting side mounts to the floor ?

thanks,

J.

My genuine Bride rail on the drivers side doesn't go all the way back, but my stock rail on the passengers does with the universal rail I mentioned. I would go down this route to ensure you can move it all the way back. It only needs a few welds to position and a quick satin black spray over the joints and you hardly notice it. :thumleft:

I would use a 65mm spreader plate under the car, and use a square washer plate slid under your carpet to reinforce the top if you want peace of mind.

^^ this!

welded the spreader to the underside and resprayed it all under there. Drilled out the spot welds for the old mounts, made more room for fitting.

^^ this too! This man went one step further lol. I had good conditioned undertrays, so I simply cut off any excess bolt and the trays cover them nicely. :thumleft:

Hi Guys

What I mean is that I wanted to fit the side mounts to the O/E bolt holes,
the front rail hole and the rear that sits lower, I'm having to look into a way to
space the rear bolts hole because of the lower setting.

Good luck with that! The front bolt holes are horizontal so you'd need to make a weird custom frame. :-k

Hi Pal

looks like I've solved it, Rougue Motorsports make the rails with side mounts.
I've asked them though if i can just by the rails as i have already purchased Corbeau side mounts.

luckily they have a old pair in stock and a new pair and are willing to split from the side mounts and sell to me.

Heres a pic :) , Just gonna get them resprayed black.

Was going to say you'll have a job bolting straight to the floor as it's not exactly flat! Those brackets are the kind of thing I usually make up, they just replicate a flat surface for you to bolt the side mounts to.

You may want to weld a couple of 50x5mm flat bars between the two plates to join the whole lot, but it'll work without (you may have a bit of flex otherwise).

I fookin hate fitting bucket seats. It always takes WAY longer than expected and involves lots of going back and forth between car and workbench making tweaks

Hi Bud

yeah now you mention it maybe getting a set of bars welded across would held rigidity. I'm going to get these and then can get a fabricator to do so.

thanks for the advice.

That's very fortunate, and saved you a LOT of hassle. Good job! :thumleft:

The seat will hold them rigid once you bolt everything up.
