Stupid question - what are these things on the front bumper?

Not having a Mk1 to hand to have a look I just wondered what these little ridges/flaps/bits of stuff were under the Mk1 bumper.

It's just a slight lip on the edge of the bumper skin. I'm not sure whether it serves a minor aerodynamic purpose or whether it's just to give the skin a little more stiffness in that area due to the recesses for the indicators/sidelights.

Do they bolt to the reinforcement bar behind?

They don't bolt to anything, they're part of bumper skin moulding

It's the number plate mount. These screw in the bumper frame. And then corrode and fall off.
