Rev 5 White T-Bar Manual N/A - £999 ovno

Post by mrayfield »

Finally time to say goodbye to my MR2, and wanted to offer it here first before opening it up to any other sites. It's been very good to me for the last 8 years, and hoping it will be good to someone else now too!

It's not in perfect condition (see photos linked below) but is only a few quid short of it IMO.

The Main Headlines:

1999 (T Reg) T-Bar in white
Just under 150,000 miles, with most of those driven by myself. Never taken on a track
Drives great - pulls well and great noise!
MOT til end of October
All electrics working apart from 2 noted below
Leather seats
All owners have been non-smokers
Glass is perfect all around
Original Rev 5 alloys (bit shabby nowadays)
Original spare tyre and 'T-Bar panel bags'
All original interior except replaced gear gaiter, and knob (original included, but again a bit shabby)
Few spots of rust (and I mean tiny spots), but bodywork in good condition otherwise. I'm not an expert tho! Front wings both replaced during my ownership (by local coach works) due to being dented whilst parked.
Serviced/MOTd regularly

Looking for around £999 ovno

Pics are here - feel free to ask any questions via PM and I'll try to get back ASAP.
If the link doesn't work for you, just copy and paste this:
http://s1149.photobucket.com/user/mrayf ... t=3&page=1

Also:

EVERY receipt, MOT, etc since I've owned the car
4 new tyres, and new battery - Jan 15
Locking nuts and key supplied
2 key fobs - one in need of some TLC

Problems (being as honest as I can be, and all shown in linked pics):

Distributor cap probably cracked (according to mechanic) - doesn't enjoy rainy cold starts, but only ever actually failed to start on me once. Cheap fix either way.
Aerial stuck in 'up' position. Still works fine reception-wise, but the motor to extend/retract doesn't do the job anymore.
Oil warning sensor broken - simple replacement needed, or just check the oil every now and again!
Drivers T-Bar panel has cracked metalwork on front corner, but not caused any probs in the time I've owned it
Passenger-side wing mirror housing slightly cracked/grazed. Again - not worsened in my time owning the car
Slight roof leak over what would be the passenger's left shoulder
Paint cracked on front bumper due to gentle nudge with kerb!
Wiper arms rusting
Some wear on right bolster of driver's seat
Handbrake needs servicing - still works fine and releases fine though

Car is sat waiting in Bishop's Stortford (J8 on the M11) and would be happy to have people view/test drive.
At the moment I'm available all day as on my summer hols, but back Teaching next Tuesday so would only be evening/weekend viewings after that.

Hoping someone enjoys her as much as I have!

She is a tired looking car mate, but at that price should represent a good project for someone - good luck with the sale. :thumleft:

I'd offer £400 taking into account the work and parts needed, milage and bodywork repairs all needed mate.

Thanks for your interest :)

That's quite a lot less than I was hoping for, but I do understand the factors you've mentioned might affect your valuation of the car - even though you originally said it looked a fair price ;)

I am willing to be flexible, and have said I'd rather sell it to an enthusiast (hence why I've only advertised on this forum), but that's just too much of a stretch for me.

If you'd like to move closer to the advertised price please feel free to PM me, but no worries if you decide against it.

Do you have any photos of the car at all, primarily the rust spots? Have you checked over the underside much? Any signs of rot there too?

There's a link to some pictures already in the ad (about half way down), but I'll try to take some more pics of the rust spots I've mentioned this afternoon and add them to the linked folder.

I've not checked the underside myself tbh, but my garage assured me there was nothing to worry about the last time it was serviced, and they've been looking after me very well for a few years now.
I wasn't planning on selling her at all, so I've always asked them if they can see any bills coming, but I just came into enough money to buy a new motor and here we are!

Uploaded some much closer shots of the rust spots I could find, although annoyingly that now means my photobucket starts with all the worst pictures!

You can see the rear ends of the skirts are blistering in places (a lot of it is just dirt - promise!). There are also spots in each rear arch and each A-pillar; again, with a decent wash most of the colour you can see disappears leaving a small spot that actually needs attention.
There are also some chips on the edge of the drivers door and one of the pop-ups.

My hand appears for scale purposes only, and I'm a normal size guy with normal size hands before anyone asks

Sorry mate I was viewing via my phone.

Has it ever had a wash ? And has the bonnet lost its lacquer ?

I'm looking for a restoration project tbh with you. Although bodywork and structural cost, even a full respray can be almost the cost of a whole decent condition rev5, hence my offer.

I'm dealing with people via PM at the moment - not keen to advertise my number on a forum. I'm sure you're all lovely, but you never know who might be reading ;)

Feel free to PM me any questions you have and I'll try and reply ASAP

You both do realise I still have an MR2, right? A certain Mk1 Super Edition.

The viewing figures on the thread dropped, so I cancelled the show  For now...
