I don't think the forum software would be able to do something like that unfortunately.

It is a function on vB but I doubt it'll be on this version of phpBB. :(

I guess you mean the same as on the money saving expert forum?

phpBB has a post 'like' feature, I understand this forum runs on a very old version though, so we aren't going to get any new features for a long time.

That a shame .. it would be nice to give forum members an incentive to chip in on topics.

does the IMOC committee outsource the installation/maintenance of the forum software btw?

based on the copyright notice this version is creeping up on 10 years vintage.

i've ran and admin'ed a few big forums if you ever need a hand modifying or upgrading.

just seen vbulletin do a hosted+license solution in one package now, seems reasonable ($30 a month seems a bargain!)

A GURU Section might be a handy section for people with problems to post in with a few GURUs that can reply?? Just an idea

This forum software is as old as stone henge.

It will be over that now, as I believe this forum went live in Dec 2004.

I STILL don't understand why the software has never been updated.

this forum software needs to be updated, new features help to keep a forum more active and alive, also can cause less admin work

Chances are the update will break one of the addons the forum uses, that's the reason most forums don't update. Still though, the main DB should be transferrable which is what really matters.

I agree but no one waits 10yrs without taking any update at all.

When we upgraded mkivsupra forum when i was a moderator, there was around 2 weeks of tidy up pain for the mods but after that the features spoke for themselves and made it worth while and that was back in 2008.

You might lose some features as they are now, but you won't lose anything irreplaceable. You might lose the garage for example but it would be so easy to reinstate. And it's not exactly a strong point of the forum anyway.
