Back to her shiny best! Scott is back in a '2'!

Post by Scott Barton »

As some may or may not know I was recently reunited with my MR2 after I sold her over 2 and half years ago.
She came back up for sale earlier this summer and just had to get her back.

So 2nd August I picked her up and brought her back home where she belongs.
The two years had not been kind to her. The previous owner decided to remove the carbon fibre TRD spoiler and replace it with a stock rev 3 (second hand, and in dire need of a re spray). All because it would not fit under the car cover. ](*,)
Then there was the Bomex front bumper that had a kiss with a kerb....and a stock nose put on in her place....along with a cracked front fog light.

So...got to work. Ordered up a new set of front fogs, a new carbon fibre Abflug front splitter, and sent the spoiler off for a respray.

And today, I can't thank Pistol Pete enough for the time and dedication he spent on her bringing the paintwork back to life. The transformation is amazing! All in time for JAE as well!
So this week, got to fit the splitter when it turns up, fit the front fogs, the new side blanks that are in the spray shop, and a new radiator grill.
Then it's all systems go for JAE 2013! :thumleft:

Thanks again Pete!

Nice one Scott. Keep her this time!

Just think, if you'd kept her, she would still be TRD wing and Bomex front equipped. :thumleft:

Tbh was not really a fan of the Bomex with the front 'letter box' bit. The Abflug front splitter should set the front bumper off and look level with the Autopista side skirts.
As for the rear spoiler, the Rev 3 is growing on me...it's a bit more stealth like.. ...and I can actually see out the rear window now! Ha ha!

Could always have stuck the number plate over the letterbox, or have it smoothed. Bit irrelevant now seeing as you've bought it back without it fitted!

The AbFlug splitter looks great on an MR2. :thumleft:

I'll be keeping the rev3 spoiler on mine too for the same reasons as you.

xxxxxx bolts! Say no more! Lol!
Going to attack it tomorrow evening. Have removed those hideous side strips, and pick up my new ones from the paint shop on Saturday.
Carbon fibre lip should be here this week.

Yesterday I fitted the front fogs, had to drill out both bolts (one per side) and replaced with a riv nut. Nice shiny stainless 6mm bolts holding them in place now.....with copper slip! No more seized bolts! Lol!
Went for the big switch on.....nothing....realised I had not connected the lamps inside the unit! Lol! Off they came again. #-o

Oh...and I booked next Friday off! :thumleft:

Why did I say Carbon fibre Abflug?? I meant Aeroware! ](*,)

Update this evening. Managed to remove the bottom lip in preparation to fitting the carbon fibre AEROWARE splitter. Also fitted new stainless grill in front of the radiator. Looks very smart with the new fogs.
New black anodised bonnet pins fitted as well.

Need to keep an eye out for some smoked indicators now.
:thumleft:

Will post some pics up tomorrow.

Nearly had a disaster though. Reversed off my ramps and crunch! Bottomed out! Even with low rise extensions on it!
Had to use two scissor jacks to lift it off the ramps! Not much damage luckily!

Rad mesh fitted like a dream! Ended up cutting it to size, and slotting it in from the top, even cut a slot for the tow point!
