Steve would just use a 10/40 Magnatec. Its absolutely fine with an engine like the 4AGE

The September issue of the MR2 MK1 Club magazine will carry an article by Club Technical Advisor Alan Jones called
“OILS, FILTERS, CHANGES, LIFE’S RICH PATTERN” This contains some very useful info both on oils and filters. Richard Morgan

I would use nowt else except Castrol GTX magnatec 10w40.
Use a genuine toyota oil filter and your sorted.
Ive tried various oils in the past including mobile 1 and none were as good as the magnatec. :D

I'm in the middle of a 2 year service on mine. Using valvoline this time as the autofactors were doing a bit of a deal on it. Will let you know how I get on.

Oilman has been posting up some articles on stuff like this - do a quick search and have a look in the knowledgebase too.

The principle is to keep to the original grade of oil, but increase the quality of the oil used...

I'd use at least a Semi-synth given you're going to be tracking the car (?) and oil temps will be higher. The semi and fully synths are more temperature stable and less likely to break down
