My new wheels....

Post by Graeme Shaw »

Just paid my deposit on this little machine:

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/4051082.htm

Pick it up a week Monday, booked in for 512bhp remap the day after, happy days!

Then off to Spa grand prix and the ring the following weekend in it!

Although my Mr2 is now for sale Ill let you all know what its like in comparison, ill have both for a while I think so can have them both face off against each other..... Who will win??

Awesome looking car, I'd love to have a go in a turbo :D

I'll be interested to see what you think of the Tip gearbox - I get to drive one pretty regularly (albeit a 'shopping' 996 C2) and I'm not overly impressed. It's not bad as an auto goes, but I have to say it's a bit dim-witted at times.

I'd guess it might be less of an issue in a Turbo given all that power and torque :-k

Seriously cool car dude 8) Not generally a fan of the 996 shape but the Turbos always look good. Bet the performance is immense

Hey all

Update on Mr2 turbo vs 911 Turbo.

Had the 911 about 4 weeks now and had it mapped to 500bhp and 512 talks. However I ran it against the mr2 pre map to see how the mr2 would fair.

I have to say the mr2 is a very underated car. Bloody hell its quick off the line! I was in Porsche with a good (experienced) Mr2 driver in the Mr2.

Off the line the mr2 leaves the Porsche, I had to really push the Porsche to catch him. Probably the difference between a crap driver (me in Porsche) and a good driver, getting off the line well.

By about 40-50mph i had caught and started t pass, but it wasnt a "blow the doors off" type of moment.

Sure the Porsche IS faster but not by as much as you might think. From a rolling start the Porsche wins once it finds the right gear....

Now with the re map, I think the margins will be bigger

Love the Porsche but I have to say the MR2 still impresses me and ill miss it.

It's only the top 'box over a manual. With a stick in the 996 you'd march away from the start in a very commanding fashion.

Try the same test with an auto MR2, see what happens then ;)

Mr2 is as garage 300bhp. Its because of weight and the tip box in the 911 like Ekona said

Standard 911 turbo = 262 bhp per tonne

Modified MR2 Turbo = 230 bhp per tonne

And the 911 pulls past the mr2 like you would imagine given there is really only 30 bhp difference, but the 911 has way more talk.

I think the 911 WILL blow the doors of it now though.........

Looks great!

I do prefer the spoiler down though, but just personal preference.

Get a re map, circa £400 and 500bhp and circa 500 talks, bargain!
