Tubby V`s Alfa Romeo GTV 3.0 v6

Post by Graeme Shaw »

Been a while since I posted here, incase of a flaming..... but here goes,

A friend has just bought a nice silver Alfa Romeo GTV (one of these, incase your unsure)
http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/reviews/f ... oupe-1996/

Great looking car, but it sounds even better! A lot smaller than I thought, Nice interior, classic Italian design.
With a sports exhaust, uprated suspension. He bought it for a track day car. Nice choice I thought, front wheel drive 220 odd bhp, so you know what its going to do.
After being taken for a passenger ride and then having a drive, it felt pretty quick, when you wanted it to be. But stick it in 5th or 6th and the revs drop to 2krpm and its silent, lovely for motorway cruising. Hike the revs and it turns into a different beast that sounds like a car should, i miss that sound with an mr2 turbo.

Any way after having a few quick cars, he thought it was very quick, in fact quick enough to keep up or even make my mr2 look silly.

Righty then lets have a go......
But before I tell you the outcome....

Out of interest what does everyone think happened?

Either Mr2 left him for dust or you drove like a pussy.

Mr2 up to 100mph then the alfa will claw back the advantage.
If you can't see the angle, you're in trouble.

As in avatar, rev2 turbo, however running rev3 engine. See garage for details.
Not any driver skill needed, straight 2 mile runway from different speeds, side by side, both hit loud pedal together, same gear etc, etc.

you should kill it even at triple figures, I mullered a 350z not long ago and was a little suprised though he'd have the legs at the top.

Well it was no match for the mr2.
It wasn't by a car length or so either, were talking quarter of a mile or more on a 1 mile stretch.

Any gear any speed the mr2 left it for dead.
I even slowed up, let him race up to overtake then hit the gas, lift off to keep side by side then floor it and leave him again, all the while he is pulling through the gears foot to the floor.

I would of said MR2 easy as the Alfa V6's do sound good but they dont have the performance of other cars like the Z4 and 350Z with similar engine size, they also drink fuel, the Alfa GT V6 has worse mpg then a 350Z.

Not exactly surprising result, there is not much that keeps up with a tuned rev3... Im running 1.1 bar supporting mods and it destroyed an bmw 840i right up to 140mph... Come to think of it i dont think i have ever been shown tail lights...

Yeah, dont get me wrong... Many cars would leave it for dust... Just have not come up against one yet... The 840i is the best thing i have raced, and i only raced him as i considered it to be a worthy opponent. LOL

While on the subject.. Who else is dreaming of the day they pull up at the lights... Clear stretch of road, and your sitting next to a Ferrari 355.... Well probably not the NA drivers :oldtongue: But tuned tubby drivers.. I know at some point you have thought.... This would beat a 355

Depends. Have you ever dreamed of the day you pulled up to the lights next to a filthy old Nova running a C20LET engine, and there's a clear stretch of road in front of you and you think to yourself... "I'm going to get beaten here by a bloody Nova!"

I got my ass handed to me hby an Integra the other day.

Up to end of 3rd the bat mobile was in the lead but then the integra came past. He was running 400 bhp with a big turbo though.

No contest when it comes to engine note though - that V8 howl wins every time.
