Superedition project part 1 of 3 completed ~ Pic Heavy ~

Post by autobody »

Hi everyone,

My name is Imran and based in Manchester. in 2010 I sold my supercharger but soon got itchy feet and wanted another SC as a project. So I got myself a superedition which needed quite a bit of work.

Three issues with the car:

1) RUST
2) engine overheats on longish runs
3) full respray

In the last few months I took the car to Gary to sort the rust on the car. And am pleased to say stage one is now complete.

I have copied the images and text from another forum so it may not flow right:

Car when I got it:

The rust:

Look what I found hidden behind the front driver side wing, all this damp stuff has caused lots of damage to the door post, see images below:

Image

Door post - very close to where the door bolts on, cant been a good place to rust.

Found a small hole, did have a poke around and does looks quite solid:

Image

More rust on the floor, this is that the front driver side floor:

Driver side sill, looks good apart from one hole in the middle:

Rear driver side floor:

Some new parts for the car: front bumper bar for 134 pounds from Toyota, they originally wanted 150+ but asked for a discount and got it 8) ... Going to make sure the bar get protected well to stop it from rusting.

Also I found a newish number plate bar in my store room (forgot I had it  ). So after the welding the front end should be like new...

Need a better bumper skin though as the current one is wavy at the top ( maybe its on to tight  )

Also got a set of new APEX springs for 70 pounds (they were not my 1st choice as I wanted to buy the Fensport springs but cant afford them and need the springs to pass the MOT.

Okay the most important parts I have are the replacement panels, I've managed to get two sills (not sure if I need them to be honest) and both rear arch kit sets...

She need a lot of work to put her back on the road , its a good job imran brought her and he is a mk1 enthusiast otherwise we would have lost another se .

The floor (passenger side)

leaking t bars have caused this damage .

Image

Image

remove the sound proofing to access the damage and it looks worse than it is , the rest is solid and the inner sills a rust free .
the only way to stop corrosion spreading is to cut it out , this is a rough cut to remove the damage first .

Image

Image

The replacement floor pan I got a while ago:

i have a floor pan to graft in , this will be fun and a bit off a pig but its straight forward if you take time .

3 piece split rims, (PIAA nakajima racing) the rims needs a polishing also the caps was missing, it took me a year to find them. I will post images of them in the next post as can't add to many images in a single post.

Pic of the Momo gear knob

Image

Image

the momo steering wheel without the original cover:

Image

I did manage to find a cover which fits the wheel, as I don't think I will be able to find a original steering cover.

Image

Also I have 4 of these seats, two was from my 1st sc and the other two came with the car. So with the 4 seats, I will be able to have two mint seats for this car.

Image

Am not sure if these are for the SE or just all aw11 but here is a pic for you guys, they sit behind the seat.

Guess what's in the box, its 20+ years old...

Image

Its original Toyota fog lights, they are brand new and never been on a car. I believe they came in the early aw11 and ae86. these are the 1st model that were out, then a few years later there was another set available which had different covers (black and silver) these are black and gold. The black and gold will suit the SE colour scheme I think...

Imran, did you not get the Super Edition visor decal from Chris?

It's just Mark sold him one of his super duper screen printed decals which is much better than vinyl.

O yeah I still got that, I just need a mint visor to put it on. I've already paid for two from ebay which were advertised as mint and they come all scratched
