Phoenix's Power SPL SW20

Post by RichLee »

Hi,

My name is Rich, I was sub editor with MR2only for many years. Most people will know of me, i think anyway  MR2 enthusiast for over 5 years and I'm hardcore JDM...none of this Japspeed, Mongoose and Rota Wheels rubbish (sorry people). Also known for sourcing impossible to obtain JDM parts ;)

My current Mk2 Turbo I've owned for 3 years. Bought standard and built up from scratch. Built Not Bought

This car has had a full genuine GReddy body kit fitted, a task I set myself and achieved without much issue. Once this was done I got bored and set myself an impossible task.

This leads on to the legendry die hard MR2 tuners Phoenix's Power SPL in Japan. Die hard MR2 enthusiasts will know of them, noobs will not, look em up peeps!

A full Type II Phoenix Power car is very very very rare, I know of only 4/5 full cars remaining worldwide. A friend owns the black PP car, only one in the UK...until now  mwhahaha!

My favorite one, which was owned by Locky, on here got broken for parts 2 years ago. So I said you know what I'm going to rebuild it! Lockys car was the original Phoenix Power Auto Salon demo car. PP demo cars are all white.

It’s taken me 2 years to source all of the parts from all corners of the globe. Today I took the car out of storage to add the last piece with the aim of getting it resprayed early next year. I suspect the car will also be for sale next year hmmmmm :(

Let me know what you think :thumleft:

must have took you a lot of time and more to the point expense to find all those parts. I bet the tax man was loving you with the import duties LOL

I like how it looks from the side and back but not i'm not sure on the front. It looks to happy smiley if you know what i mean LOL

Did you do all the work yourself on it?

Cheers for the comments guys.

Yep I've done all of the work myself and yes its cost me a small fortune to piece togther, but hey you only come this way once and this scene is all about been different and unique.

I quite like the front but does look happy, I think I'll have to smash in the fogs to give it a rougher apperance  People only see the front for a split second in the mirror anyway, they can then admire the rear

Absolutely love this. Very nice indeed. I'm also a fan of the PP cars if you couldn't guess

What's the difference between PP mirrors and bomex? I've got a set of Bomex that look almost identical. Are they just a copy of the PP ones?

I'm 99.9% sure there is no difference, the first PP car used bomex skirts and front bumper with questionable extra meshed vents (mmmm.. 90's)

I love the PP kit, there was a red front bumper, rear bumper and side skirts on yahoo japan a while back which I was very very tempted to bash the credit card to buy it but didn't because the wing was missing, and I'd feel a little bit wrong having the kit on a car that wasn't built by PP.

I was on Yahoo Japan yesterday looking for stuff. Do you have an account?
Handy to know incase I see something I like!

I'd love to order the kit from Nengun, but since it's for a track car, I'd be scared in case it got damaged...

So who owns a genuine PP car at this moment in time then? There can't be many. Can't believe Simon Lockyer broke his...
