That front splitter/mudflap on rev 5's -whats it for?

Post by ryan »

It sits at the bottom front part of the arch liner of the front nose cone/arch, by the front wheels. Audi TT's seem to have them

Air deflector I believe. All Rev5's have them and they're available from Toyota.

Apparently to help solve the light steering feel that we get under high speeds.

As the others have said.
The steering on my rev5 is good & heavy up to 100 (never been any faster O:) ), but I've never driven an MR2 without these flaps so I can't really compare.

"Front bumper stone deflector", part number 53161-17010, you'll need two, one per side.

And the screws are part number 90159-60523, of which you'll need four - two per deflector.

I doubt the older wheel arch lining will have the holes already though.

Are they the usual extortionate Mr T prices?

It's a tiny piece of plastic, so it's bound to be £50+
I need to order something from Mr T anyway so I'll try to find out [-o<

The deflectors are £16 each.

As CosmosblueMR2 says though, check your tyre pressures first.

as a guide i set mine to 33psi rear and 29psi fronts....

tyre places have a habbit of setting the front the same as the rears i have found... plonkers ! ](*,)

just as an example... my last tyre change all round resulted in them being set to 35psi all round ! :shock: needless to say what with the releasing gel on them and the pressures that high it was unbeliveably unstable at anything above 50mph. =;

You're right, Kwik-Fit's book though has something like 35psi all round.

Pics (because I'm kind), although I should've took the wheel off (but I'm not that kind)...

Hmmm, just realised that I said 2 screws (as shown in the EPC) although they clearly have 3 screws. Oh I dunno #-o

Johny, do they not need clips on the back for the screws to go into? Especially if you didn't have the holes in the plastic arch in the first place?

I bought this flaps a while back, but haven't fitted them yet because I don't yet have decent clips to go on the back, and then I forgot all about them. Hmmm, must go to Mr T and get some, and fit these at last. :?

I've no idea TBH, the part number I gave for the deflector does include some extra gubbins though, I'll stick a pic up of what's shown in the EPC when I get home...
