Quick compression question

Post by Ian Geary »

The BGB guide states that compression on a warm engine should be 164 psi, and no lower than 128 psi.

Judging from the oil filter position, the BGB guide is based on a rev 1 & 2 engine.

Now I've just stumbled across a guide to mk2 turbos on the net http://www.btinternet.com/~netsurf/mr2t/mr2tfaq.html, which states

"The engine in the 94+ models was extensively revised with larger fuel injectors, lower cylinder compression ratios, a new CT-20 turbo now running at 13psi and a new ECU."

My question is: does anyone know what the compression ratios should be for a 94 onwards turbo engine? as this paragraph indicates they should be lower than the 164psi target on the rev 1 & 2 cars.

Also, could someone just confirm my thinking that compression readings should be lower on a stone cold engine than an engine that's warmed up?

Cheers

Hope this helps

Hi Ian.

Just performed a Google search and Mr Canny's site popped up with 1994+ Turbo compression details; 8.5:1... as opposed to the Rev1/2 Turbos which are 8.8:1.

Regards,

Jonty.
