central locking/alarm

Post by spindle »

i'm having the same central locking problem that everyone else seems to have. no central locking when either key is turned yet both doors lock and unlock from the switch on the drivers door (next to electric window/mirror controls).

i have an alarm to fit with central locking output. would this solve it as then i wouldn't need to use the key?
if so which wires would i need to tap into?

Yes this would solve your problem. The wires that you need to tap into can be accessed by removing the plastic panel under the steering wheel and the removing the air vent piping which will become visible when the panel is removed. You need to find a small box which says central locking control unit on it and trace the two wires that pulse to earth when the switch on the door is pressed (you will need to press the courtesy light switch if the door is open as the car will not lock otherwise). Also make sure your alarm is set up for negative switching central locking, i.e. the two wires from the alarm pulse to earth for approx 1 second.

Hope this helps, Ian
