[Mk2] [NA] Bonnet pins?

Post by mark_a_thorpe »

Something for some reason I haven't thought about, and should start thinking about for when I get my carbon vented beastie.

Whats the deal with these? Do I need certain types? Where do they fix on the underside?

You dont *have* to have bonnet pins but i decided to go down that route for peace of mind.
Not a hard job to do but you need nerves of steel whn you are about to drill the bonnet!
Make sure you have a number of sharp drill bits. Start by drilling a small pilot hole and gradully increase the size. This will prevent chipping.
I fixed mine in the bottom left and right hand corners.
This is the kit i bought

And this is where i fitted them

Some people decide to mount theirs horizontal on the bonnet as opposed to vertical like mine.

Once yo have fitted the pins then you need to think about washer jets. The bonnet will not come with them. So you either have to modify your existing set up and have spray bars fitted to the windscreen wipers, or do as i did and fit the original washer jets....more nerves of steel needed along with needle files and a dremel! :thumleft:

You may also need to adjust the bonnet catch. I did on mine.
Anything else you need to know, let me know.

To be honest, those type pins will rust in time. They also look a little on the cheap side to me. IMHO

I went for the Aerocatch type. Flush mounting and look the dogs danglies. Pretty reasonable too.

Yummy! And yes....wish I'd not sold them as I never did my FTO headlight conversion in the end! Doh!

Your car's gonna look rather similar to mine (or the other way round!) pretty soon! Going back to red, carbon vented bonnet (got a few choices..), TRD spoiler, black roof etc.....

Lookin good though! :D
