MR2, how fast are they???

Post by G-LimitedGav »

I own a g-limited 1992 Mr2 rev 2. The engine is a 3SGE, have been told that it has about 156 hp??? some guy said that it had 200hp because it was an import but thats a load of bull, or else my cars very sick. Stil with 156 horsepower id expect a little more preformance than i am getting at the moment, its a stock car and i think that my T reg 1.8 (127hp) CDX astra is faster or as fast as it. The astra is pretty fast tho, 0-60 in 8.5 secs it says on parkers. anyway, i tried 2 pitch my car against a 1992 1.6 CDX import (its some fancy racing model) which is also compltly stock in the engine, and it easily pulld away from me, i dont no if i have less power than i should or if the mr2 is a fast car but no where near as fast as it looks.

Expect this post to be moved to the General section where it belongs

Your car will have around 154-158bhp, and it should be considerably faster than your Astra, you should get around 0-60mph in 7.2 seconds.

Only the rev5 G-Limited had 200bhp.

yes mate, whoever told you 200bhp nos nothing about mr2s!
every newbie i here from claims (im not refering to you here, but your mate) that the imports are more powerful, they are EXACTLY the same as uk model in performance and 0-60 time.
no difference what so ever!!
youll have around 154bhp which is stock.

clearly the car is a little poorly if some like that is beating you, as said, your car should be hitting 0-60 in 7.2!
you got to bar in mind tho, the mr2 is infact pretty heavy, prob 200-300kg more than the other car!

get it fully serviced, check for error codes on the ecu, and then see where you at.

JohnnyC
i thought only the beam vvti engines which are jdm spec cars have 200bhp, DEFINALTY not the g-limited!
it was called the beams.

Well I have the late revision 5 mk2 MR2 N/A - it is as standard 168bhp
the older rev3-4 N/A mk2s are 173bhp as standard (i think) and the rev 1-2 N/A are about 140bhp (ish)

however it would be fair to say that after my modifications mine should now be running at approx 200bhp

mk2 turbos are about 245bh as standard? :|

want mark or revision MR2 were you told was about 200bhp as standard??!

I have added an apexi induction to mine and straight through mongoose exhaust system plus afew extras, and ive noticed a difference but its still not fast enough for me! :?
my sister has the 1.8 gen 6 celica ST and although I always pull away quicker, she still manages to keep up.. hers is only meant to be 130bhp and mines 200bhp?! i must be doing something wrong #-o

thats a fair question. i dont no of any nas running 200bhp, apart from the beams.

rev1/2 nas were 154bhp. bit more than 140, and of course the had a quicker 0-60 than the higher revs!
which still baffles me really. altho, once rolling i should imagine there a tad quicker than the rev1/2.

turbo are 220 adn 241bhp, but also consider the fact that the na would be down about 100 lb or torque, this is what makes the difference in performance, not just the bhp.

we will miss b. no offence, but you only have an air filter and exhaust... The NA engine is pretty tuned as standard so to extract anything decent, you need to spend BIG cash! cams, chip, manifold, exhaust, filter, the list goes on, and you would be pushed to get 200 brake then!

easy chefs, its nice figure to hit on an NA, and with any other car a few mods would expect to give you 20bhp or so, but as mentioned on the mr2 na, they dont no much to be honest, apart from better sounds i here.

The only MR2 with 200 bhp is the red top GLTD beams rev 5.....

You'd have to put serious wedge into a UK 3SGE to get 200 bhp.... :-k

weren't the UK rev 5's 168 bhp?

Rev 1/2 - 158 bhp
Rev 3 177 bhp
rev 4/5 168 bhp

i think rev3's were 173bhp but the rest are spot on as far as i know
