need a place in my area to look at my wiring (Washington)

Post by podge1 »

hi, iv been having a terrible time getting my car sorted out, fuel cut keeps coming in too early, and dash boost guage always reads + (max), i investigated the wiring near ecu, which was all taped up. i removed tape, and oh my god, loads of wires just twisted together, 3 connected to one ect, there is obviously shorts, mixed up wires all over. the prev owner has made a right mess of it. :(
as i dont have a clue what goes where , and what to do, i need someone who knows what they are doing, to have a look for me. if anyone could do this i would pay them obviously, or recommend me somewhere to take it who would know, i would be very grateful.
i live in washington, near sunderland/newcastle.
please help!
thankyou

Where exactly is your garage Paul? (I'm from Peterlee originally so I know the area fairly well)

Do you do bodywork too as I need my front bumper spraying after some fool reversed into it and cracked it (only a tiny 1" crack but I like to have my bodywork to be perfect).

I should be up in the North East next weekend for the Radio 1 weekend thing so if you happened to work on a Saturday/Sunday that would work out perfect.

That's a shame as the only times I can really make it back up to the North East is on weekends :(

Never mind though, I'm sure I can find a reputable bodyshop around here.

hello mate, ive found that wire for you,its on block A pin number 5...its a green with white stripe wire, this is your check engine light.....but i was wrong about its operation,it doesnt become live to make the dash engine management light flash,it becomes an earth and does it that way....so you will need to shove a test bulb onto a battery live, the one i used on your starter motor relay will do and join the other end onto pin 5 blockA green/white.....bridge out TE1 and E1,switch ignition on and see what the test bulb does...get back to me if you have a problem or with the error codes.....

no not yet graeme,no check engine light at all...so until we get that working theres no clues as to whats going on....its hitting fuel cut at 7psi which is odd to say the least, shouldnt happen until 12psi...thats regardless of wether the boost pressure sensor is connected or not!! i suspect theres an ecu fault that the previous owner has covered up by removing the dash bulb....so he wont know for sure until thats fixed.

Nightmare situation, buggers things up slightly when previous owners go chopping bits out and pulling important indicators, obviously had the buyer seen the light flashing then maybe the sale would not of gone through or at least affected the price...buggers.

so its going to be a case of checking that check light wiring all through the system??? poor bu88er.

He's got the best man on the job, thats for sure ;-)

i think the light is the least of the problems,i have a feeling the ecu might need replacing,i cant for the life of me work out why its hitting fuel cut at 7psi,thats unheard of....

no probs, remember the ecu isnt outputting a positive voltage, its outputting an earth to make the dash bulb flash so you will need to wire a bulb to + and test the pin i gave you with the - end of the bulb.

hi again, wired a bulb up today, and done test like you said. put one end on live starter relay, and other on the 5th pin (green) no flashes, bulb just lit up constantly... :(
what does this mean?
thanks.

right, that confirms an ecu problem...if you had a bulb connected to live on one wire and connected to that green wire on pin 5 block A and it just stayed lit permenantly then it can only be a faulty ecu.....i bet if you take your clocks out the check engine bulb has been removed by the previous owner....replace the ecu mate, theres often one on ebay or one of the lads on here might have one for you.
