Well I've done it.
Deposit paid on a '94 N/A T Bar in Red. Pickup on Tuesday and I cant wait!!!
Hmmm, now I need to think about putting a mod list together.
Well, I picked it up today and I'm very happy with it.
Hopefully the image will work.
Now I need to work out where to start on the mods. A good read of a few build threads me thinks!
A good health check first which will probably determine the order of importance. Short Term
Rear TRD Strut Brace
Front TRD Strut Brace
Mesh Guard for radiator
New Toyota OEM iridium spark plugs, OEM air filter. and OEM oil filter
Goodrich stainless brake hoses
Poly bush mounts
Redline MT90 gear oil
OSRAM Night Breaker Plus Headlight Bulbs
De Cat pipe (mongoose)?
Rev 5 wheels with matching tyres (previous owner had mixed budget tyres - not good) Medium Term
Meister R coilovers
Engine polish/clean Longer Term
Good quality re spray in Red of course!
Power deck spacer maybe.
Any recommendation on a good specialist garage? I'm near Burnley.
The list is a bit long and probably quite novice but its a start. [/b]
Nice to know it actually inspires someone and not just me blabbing on
There's currently a Mongoose de-cat on eBay now, item number 200996292175.
If you need any advice, give me a shout I'm from Manchester too
I'm sure I'm going to need a lot of advice!
Thanks for the heads up on the ebay de cat. First purchase completed. I can see this is going to get expensive but all in a good cause.
Best advice I can give you....
Don't worry too much about engine mods... very little effect to be had compared to what you can do with suspension. Read up on everything first though before making decisions... check out carbibles.com for lots of good info.
Plan to do things together and well to greatly reduce labour costs... ie suspension (and if doing springs do shocks, top mounts etc at the same time... where one component has worn another won't be far behind..) and bushes and lines then you only have to take everything off once and have one geo set up when all done... lots of good second hand buys here and with affiliates.
Be patient. Buy well when you can but be prepared to wait to fit... Also if you plan on keeping it years just upgrade when you'd need to replace anyway... easy way of prioritising.
Have a lot of fun.
R.
Some good advice there thanks. I'm scanning the forums and ebay for good deals.
Like you say I think i'll group stuff together and wait to get them fitted in one go.
As a novice I'm still working out what I can and cant do job wise.
I have a brand new power deck spacer and some unused speedhut el-glo dials I'm considering not fitting both if your interested, located in BD16 so not far.
Also garage I use for my rev5 is in Blackburn..
Thx RikH77, just sent you a pm about the power deck spacer.
Good to know theres a specialist in Blackburn thats about 10 miles from me.
Well some slow progress over xmas, nothing too ambitious.
O/s headlight cover ordered to replace my dented one.
Gear Knob sent to Rhon + gear and handbrake gaiter ordered (black with red stitching)
Black headlining fitted replacing the grey one
De cat pipe arrived via ebay but not attempted to fit yet.(thanks Donato for the heads up).
Rays TE37 15" wheels ordered from keljon. They are white but I'm thinking of getting them re done in a dark gunmetal. Also cant decided whether to buy new stickers or do without.
About to purchase a turbo engine lid, rain tray and gas ram.
Exciting (expensive) times!
Coilovers are very high on the priority list!! Meister R's me thinks.
Some more cosmetic bits completed today.
Fitted new gear knob and gaiter plus hand brake gaiter supplied by Rhon.
Fitted clear indicator lights (although one seems a little loose, I'll have to re visit)
Gave the bonnet a going over with Meguiars Ultimate Compound to try to improve the colour fading. I'll give it a few more goes and see if I can avoid a respray.
My Rays TE37 wheels arrived today also.
They will be getting a refurb. I'm being a bit indecisive on the colour matt black or gun metal?
More to follow ..
