An Open Letter from Marc Whitten about Xbox LIVE this Holiday

Published January 3, 2008

Dear Xbox LIVE Members:

During this past holiday season you helped us break a number of Xbox LIVE records. This included our largest sign-up of new members to Xbox LIVE in our 5 year history and just yesterday you broke the record for the single biggest day of concurrent members ever on the service.

As a result of this massive increase in usage we know that some of you experienced intermittent Xbox LIVE issues over the holiday break. While the service was not completely offline at any given time, we are disappointed in our performance. I would like to take this moment to thank you each and every one of you for your patience and understanding as our team has worked around the clock to return the service to a stable state.

At the same time we would like to offer a token of our appreciation to all of you in celebration of record success for the service. And as a thank you for your loyalty during this holiday period, we will be offering all of our Xbox LIVE members around the world access to a full Xbox LIVE Arcade game that will be available to download free of charge. In the coming weeks we will be sharing the specific details of this offer with you.

Thank you again for helping make Xbox LIVE everything that it is today!

Sincerely,

Marc Whitten

General Manager, Xbox LIVE

free arcade game and i didnt even notice any problems. sweet!

also....

Microsoft announced today that it has sold more than 17.7 million Xbox 360 consoles worldwide to date. Furthermore, the software giant announced that it has sold more than 8.1 million copies of Halo 3 since its launch September 25, 2007 while Mass Effect reached 1.6 million units sold in just six weeks since it went on sale!

Microsoft also reminded that Xbox 360 owners spend more on software and accessories than the other platforms, with the Xbox platform enjoying a record-high software attach rate of 6.9, according to November NPD data

theres nearly as many copies of halo 3 in the world as there is PS3s lol.

so your waiting for the factual argument? well done.

and i never even mentioned the ps3 network.

H3RB its basically written all over the internet that Live is the best online service on any system so again, you have your own little strange views on things.

*awaits fanboy comment even tho you guys started this*

@lauren. i tried for the point but not even google knows what song thats from.....

ah yes, the internet thats full of entirely factual knowledge.
so live has more members? its been around 5 years...
its £40 a year and u still have to pay for downloads. the video store is a joke, the arcade games are over priced.
its full of lag even on a 16 and 20meg connection with OPEN settings.
it has private chat with 1 other person yay...
tomb raider works out at £37 to buy the add ons

the psn has free online usage
the classic games are cheap as hell £3.50 is the most expensive you'll find
the store games are well worth the £5
warhawk costs £20 for the full game
private chat with up to 6 people in one room, including video
i have NEVER experienced lag on the 15 online games i own

im in no way a fan boy i actually play my 360 more but only because most of my friends have 360's.
i just genuinely think that the ps3 is an all around better console.
a few of you say "yeah but it has alot more games" so?? do you play every game each day? you may play 2 a day for a week then get bored play another 2 then go back to the first 2. so your cycling through say 6 games.
you and thai seem to be the only 2 backing up the 360 because u havent used a ps3 yet lol.

 Wrong. I played on the PS3 2 MONTHS before it even came into the country! My mate got one imported (for £700!!  :clown: ) from Jap land. I thought it was overpriced cack then and still do now.

I've played most of the games on the PS3 and found none of them to hold any value over the 360. Warhawk was pretty good but none of the others....and I HATE the controllers!! [-X :clown:

Xbox Live is overpriced yeah, but I've just bought another Gold membership for £28 off Ebay. Definately worth it. :thumleft:
