is there supposed to be some sort of reading when you accelrate?
if so what readings r safe?

Anything around 180+ is audiable.... best targeting 80's... sometimes it'll spike slightly to 130 on light load... but when your watching it is when you've got the hammer down.... generally sits around the 60-80's value.

if you are using the s-afc to pull load of the AFM signal to lean out your fueling the ecu thinks the engine is making less boost (load input from AFM and RPM lets the ecu work out boost) thus runs more ignition advance = detonation and probable engine rebuild soon.
s-afc on a rev1/2 total waste of time.
s-afc II on a rev1/2 total waste of time other than knock indicator

For the price of them, its worth having an SAFC II for knock output. You won't do any damage when the adjustments you do are minor. Yes, when you pull load from the signal, more timing occurs, though the idea of using these particular fuel computers is so you can pulling fuel out of the top end which does yeild performance.... that and ignition going forward gives it more responce and power.
Minor tweeking is not a problem - under 15% +/-. When you go silly with the correction, then you will be cocking up the stock map.
