adjust timing?

Post by Simon »

Hi, took my n/a mk2 mr2 to get serviced a few months ago, and I think they mentiond that they retarded the timing slightly coz there was a slight pinking problem. Since then the car doesn't seem as quick at high revs(and was still pinking until I added some fuel additive); I'm sure I used to get a bhp increase right up to the redline and a nice surge ovr 6000rpm. Could this be a timing problem?
Is it easy to check the timing? I have no idea how its adjusted

Thanks
Simon

Hi,

Timing is adjusted by bridging the TE1 and E1 terminals on the diagnostic port and using a timing light to see where the mark on the crankshaft pulley lines up with the fixed timing mark. You rotate the Dizzy cap clockwise/anticlockwise to retard/advance the timing. The norm is 10 degrees.

Cheers,

Paul.
