EGT probe

Post by allan »

Hi folks !
i've discovered an EGT probe on the stock downpipe of my JDM 3sgte.
Do you know if i can disconnect this probe without problems with the ECU,or can i use it to fit an EGT gauge ?
cheers,

Not quite - it's a probe to detect if the Catalyst is overheating...
It's not an EGT sensor

yep - it turns on the CAT temp warning light (orange light of a pipe with wavy line above it)

But if you car's working OK then I suppose you won't have seen it.

Overheating CATS can often be caused by the engine passing oil and bunging it up (apparently), massively reducing it's ability to reduce emissions.

(I've been reading a book on engine management, and thought I'd share this)
