Rain Covers

I've bought a lightweight car cover from the MR2 drivers club as I use
my MK1 everyday. It appears that the lightweight version is not
completely waterproof and is breathable to allow water to evaporate.
Has anybody used these? I was recommended against the completely
waterproof ones because you can't put them onto a wet car because they
hold water and condensation next to the car. But then, I'm sure a 95%
waterproof / 5% absorbant cover will also hold water next to the car.
Does anybody have any experience with car covers? I have an immaculate SC and I really don't want it rusting on me.
