yanks..big boost...is it safe?

hi,
ive been reading through the mr2oc.com site and some..well..most of the americans seem to be running 18/19/20psi on stock internals?

am i right in thinking they hav the same car as our rev1?..and if so will it be ok for me to run this kind of boost?, as ive always thought 15psi was max before u melt internals?.

p.s ive got a gt28rs turbo and greddy intercooler plus a safc 2 for fuelling.

YES PROVIDING YOU CAN KEEP THE INTAKE TEMPS DOWN TO A SAFE LEVEL AND YOU HAVE THE TURBO TO PRODUCE THAT PRESSURE OOOH AND A GOOD TUNER. BUT THE ENGINE WON'T LAST VERY LONG!

You will max out your injectors in no time with that turbo, you need wide band on it so you dont run lean, possibly go for some bigger injectors like 720cc or 850cc and look at modifying your fuel rail etc. and get some tuning done on it at a good rolling road

ive got 540cc injectors?, and a walbro fuel pump..u think i could get maybe 17-18psi with that?

i dont want to break anything but according to the yanks this turbo doesnt even start working "properly" until 18psi.

You run out of fueling with standard injectors around 300bhp.

The standard CT-26 can't flow 18-20psi at redline, its mechanically not possible.

The problem with that much boost is that you're going to potentially pick up detonation, or run one cylinder lean (usually no.3 ) and kill the engine quickly.

I'm running 16-ish Psi on a Rev2 with about 280bhp and have done for the last 80,000 miles or so with no problems. Push beyond that on a Rev1 or 2 and you're into territory where you'll loose the reliability of the engine ..

i wouldnt run much more than 16psi on that setup to be honest, especially if your running 540's on a rev2 ecu using an SAFC with no wide band tuning.

Id definitly upgrade those injectors, and even start considering a standalone system, thats the answer in short. The stock bottom end will handle around 450hp but it wont if you start running lean haha detonationtastic!

righteo, so run around 16psi top wack and see what the dyno says about the fuelling.

Yep, your injectors will max out and just start dumping fuel in anyway, which obviously isnt good tuning but the rolling road will sort that out, better to be safe than sorry :)

A lot of the yanks use high boost for the drag way but they use racing fuel too.
Small turbos - they're not big and they're not clever!

Just say NO to small turbos!

If I didnt hang around their lists then I'd still be trying to buy a ct series hybrid and still paying Fensport prices for performance parts lol! :D
