Hi,
Just wondering is there a common cyclinder which ringlands go on?
I had mine go on cyc4, on standard setup/boost.
And if there was any preventative things to check while fixing a ringland, fule pump, knock sensor, other?
Thanks,
Tony

Cyl 3 is the usual, but any of them can go. use it as an excuse to fit forged pistons - the stock rods are good for 400+bhp.

Yeah usually 3.
Check the block over for any cracks around the water pump area, just in case there are micro fractures etc.
But it's anybodies guess and a bit random. Unusual for a stock setup to go though. Check the pistons in there for signs of det.

Id be thinking if its failes on a standard setup then id be looking at the fuel pump. These weaken over the years and prob didnt provide sufficent fuel.
Also if it had been suffering detonation then was the correct fuel being used (normal unleaded instead of vpower etc)

Thats exactly what I was thinking, would it be sensible to replace fuel pump?
The car has 210k kms on it on the original fuel pump...
Its impossible to get 98RON in southern Ireland these days so 95ron may have been a factor too.
Thanks for the replies

You might want to run some octane booster as a minimum or something like meth injection to raise the octane rating.
Id def be changing out the fuel pump too.
Or the other more expensive option is to go standalone ecu and get it mapped for 95ron though you would be losing quite a bit of power.

get injectors cleaned and then put highest flowing 1 on cy3, and then cy4, 1 or 2 after that.
mappers usually put more fuel in those cylinders, so if staying stock, thats what ive done.

I believe after I sold my rev3 turbo it was cyl4 that let go.
Also you can't run the cars on 95RON and expect them to be reliable. It's not what they are built to run on.

Once you've got it running again and before you run any boost i'd be getting it mapped for 95ron mate or buy a lot of octane booster
