Well I got the replacement rear window replaced.. Dropped one of the screws from the side of the glass surround down into the drivers side engine mount. Could I get it out?? No...took me a damn whole hour with an array of random items I could find in the house/shed.

Anyways. I got it done. And I'm leaving it to dry over night. Fingers crossed it's bonded well.

Now I can actually work on stuff that needed doing in the first place :thumleft:

Started work on the engine removal. Everything's unplumbed. And took the shocks etc off the axles.

My friend Steve also dropped the engine crane off so nearly ready to go :D

Going to clean up my calipers and put new seals in. Also try and get some of my polybush kit in.

im planning on cleaning and sealing the inner arches, so wanted full access inside the arch. but sure, could have left them hanging if not.

Any tips for the rest? :thumleft:

Well.... Had a few hours whilst the Mrs was hanging from a wedding we went to yesterday.

Got most of the crap off/out of the way.
Image

Tested the crane all looking good.
Image

All was going well and then my dolly broke. ](*,)
Image

Tomorrow's plan is to make a new stronger dolly. And hopefully I can transfer the engine from the broken dolly to the new one.

And taa daaaa
Image

Managed to get the engine into the garden. My back didn't appreciate it.

Anyone know why my turbo manifold has an extra hole top right? I couldn't see a hole for the bolt to go into.

Theres defintitely supposed to be a bolt that goes there. A rev 2 has 9 holes.
If theres no hole then it may have been welded.
Did it not blow? Its the one below that one that caused all my problems.

No idea really. It was in a field 5 years previously. And I've never heard it running.

Could it be a rev 3 head? Rev 3 manifold or something? Either way it's not an issue as I've got a completely new engine to go in.

Still be interesting to see why what's been done has been done.

Gonna start the strip tomorrow. :thumleft:

I think the rev 2 has the most bolt holes.
Think rev 3 is 7 holes

Got home and started stripping the block.

Jesus was this heavy. Even once I'd taken the downpipe off the manifold and turbo weigh a tonne.

Seem to be missing an injector washer. Couldn't see it after I'd tidied up typically.

Inlet

Had a new radiator shroud and fans arrive

This a rev 3 head?

A rev 2 inlet wouldnt fit a rev 3 without mods so i doubt it is a rev 3.

Hope you bagged and noted everything as everything soon starts looking the same! Bolts look the same but have slightly different lengths etc

Id buy a complete oem toyota gasket kit and renew everything. Also while
Its off and disassembled, give everything a good paint.
Dont forget oem cambelt kit etc. I went the whole hog and replaced oil and water pumps and clutch too.

Makes sense. I'll see what difference the head has on my new engine.

I've ordered the gaskets to go on so hopefully not missed Anything.

I put bolts I removed back in where they came from once I'd moved components out of the way. Couldn't find my sandwich bags lol.

I've got a new engine to go In. But do plan on painting it all :-)

It's had new pumps and cambelt fitted to the new engine. Also got my nice black crinkle painted cam cover to go on.the vac lines seemed very daunting to have to put them all back on. Same with the loom. I look forward to reassembly lol

Well not too much progress tonight. Got the tvis and a few pipes off the engine. Alternator etc.

Painted my calipers black just to freshen them up.
Image

Collecting my wire wheel attachments for my drill so I can clean up the suspension arms and arb etc. Plan to paint all that too once I've popped my mates and removed and fitted the new bushes.

Got some more done tonight. Managed to split the gearbox from the engine in the little time I had.

Image

It's an lsd box right?
Image

Very oily inside. There a seal or anything that could have gone? Or this likely engine oil leaking in somehow?

Well got some more done today.

Got some reflective gold tape.
Image
Image

Also changed the clutch release bearing (Toyota OEM)
Image

Got the downpipe on the turbo
Image

Also helicoiled the 2 bolts I'd stripped
Image

Sprayed my heat shield too.
Image

Waiting on my new engine now. Once I've received that I can get all the bits swapped over and get it back in the bay.

Replacement engine turned up at 10:30 last night. Was supposed to come about mid day. Didnt delay anything though as I need a new clutch and im waiting on the new silicone hoses.

Had an hour today moving parts from one engine to the other.
Image

Installed a new hose from hell too.
Image

Waiting on a few parts but hoping to get the engine in end of this week.

Going a friend's house in the week to do all the rear bushes as he's got a press. He's also got my crinkle painted cam cover. So I'll get that installed too.
