Central Locking wont work on drivers door - Import Mk2

Post by Brundle25 »

Hi All

I have a 1999 Mk2 MRE sw20 import and for a while now the drivers side door will not unlock with the radio button on the keyfob or alarm. Passenger side door seems ok.

I have removed the drivers door card and replaced the microswitch with a new one (at the cost of £60) and this has not fixed the issue.

When you press the unlock button the key i can hear and feel the slightest of movements within the black box of door latch. Its like its trying to work.

Can i remove the latch and perform any cleaning or refurbishment of this part to bring it back to life? OR is it better to purchase a replacement latch? If replacement, i can only see secondhand on ebay anyone know where to source one otherwise?

It could be a look connection or check for operation of locking arm.
Where Two metal prongs attached to the unit

The lock and catch are fully operational when the key or internal lock is used, so the locking arm is fine. I hear a tick from the latch box when i try to use the central locking. Can the internals of the latch housing be cleaned?

it'll be the little white rotary switch has worn out. Happened to my rev2.

I'm starting to think my issue is with the Door latch unit (black box).

If i take this off the door, is it serviceable? can i open it up and see if there's any hard grease or something inside causing this?

It might be worth checking the wiring where it goes from the door into the car, I had trouble with my electric window wiring there on my old mk2

FYI, i managed to get this resolved. I bought the entire door latch for RHD import from MrMr2 on ebay for £22. Had to clean the part up a bit but managed to fit relatively easy. Central locking works like a dream!
