Last night got home a little early so decided to get to the splitter, with the
help of a mates orbital sander and his compressor. Made light work of it
with 240 grit pads.

Image
Image

Then once all sanded back and all flaked paint had been stripped and all stone
chip imperfections smoothed. I gave the excess dust a blow off with the
compressor line, and got to drilling out the holes for the cable ties.

Image
Image

Went with the typical drift fix patten and has surprisingly made it very strong.

Image
Image

Aiming to paint it tonight dependant on how cold it is, still deciding wether to
try and match the SMG paint or just go black considering its only a short term
fix until the Bomex bumper.

Handy hint fill the inside with expanding foam so if you hit it again it keeps some strength and you are able to get it home :thumleft:

Whilst the lip was off the car, I had booked with my mate to fit the new
item that I had been wanting to buy and have fitted for a while. To compliment
the Corbeau seats.

Image
Image
Image

And fitted !

Image
Image
Image

Scott did a fantastic job fitting them for me, and seriously undercharged me
but hey, mates since primary school and he's got a sick project s2000 so
knows the struggle :D

Many may say that they are not ideal, and annoying for road use, I've heard all
the arguments trust me ! However what people are not taking into account was
the unusually high side bolsters on the Pro Series seat. This effectively stops
the lap belt actually sitting and tightening on your lap. Obviously dangerous
and I'm not wanting to take risks. After research and advice from many others
that have fitted 4 points into their MR2's along with Corbeau's tech team
confirming this is the correct fitting, Im happy.

So then we were back to finishing the lip, in hindsight maybe some filler primer
could have helped in area's, but this fix cost me £22 in total and considering
the lip is beyond the worthiness in fixing properly and my intention for a
aesthetic change as I have said, I'm more then happy.

First coat of Filler laid down.

Image

First coat of SMG from a rattle can laid down.

Image
Image

A mate had helpfully laid down the coats of lacquer whilst
I was abroad for wor leaving it to harden over the week And then re-fitted onto the car after

Image
Image

Not too bad ! its darker then the SMG on the remainder of the car, but only
slightly and will work for now for sure !

One little job also completed over this weekend just gone was a little trial
that I discovered over the internet to try and bring life back to the T-Bar
seals, to stop the incessant leaks that are getting worse and worse.

Image

This was actually imported from Japan ( Via Ebay ) and is a regenerative
rubber grease. Hopefully bring some life back to them and maybe help seal.
its the first thing I'm willing to try to avoid having to fork out big bucks on
new seals !

First of, clean all dirt from around the seals. Had these to hand and put them
to work, pulling off a surprising amount of black dirt.

Image

And then rub in like Ainsley Harriott basting a sexy chicken with your fingers,
I covered all the seal, and not just the area's that have been leaking.

Image
Image
Image

The passenger side at the rear ( as above ) is by far the worst, and no wonder
considering that gap !

Its worked marginally, Ill continue to apply over the summer, along with
adjusting the windows to sit higher that i've been aiming to do.

Now onto some exciting news for the 2018 Face lift.

Image
Image

Genuine Bomex for a very good price. Having it delivered to Fensport next
week and will collect along with the other parts I'm sourcing, ready for the
new look. :D

Now some bigger modifications that Ive been wanting to do since getting the
car, and should probably have done a little earlier. But hey, better late then
never.

Full Superpro polybush kit, with Whiteline Adjustable anti roll bars or ARB's
as we all know them, I have pondered the idea of fitting the ARB's myself, or at
leat attempting them. However when your mate's a very competent mechanic
and work for a good rate. I thought 0.C weather and snow wouldn't make
lying on the ground that fun ! also seemed pointless as he was doing the
bushes and would most likely need a press and tools that I don't have.

Image

Excuse the underneath of the car, I had to follow a salt lorry for 4 miles
( keeping well back of course ) because of the ridiculous cold weather we have
been having.

Image

Out with the old and in with the new

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

Using his 20 tonne press to remove the old bushes !

Image
Image
Image

My aim during the summer is to underseal the whole car and paint a lot of
these arms and suspension components to protect and for aesthetic reasons.
But that will have to wait until the weather improves.

Monday just gone was time for a 4 wheel alignment that I had managed to
organise for a good price through Scott.

Before

Image

After

Image

Now since speaking to some people more in the know with geometry, they
have said I should ask to have at least 1.3 to 1.5 degrees of negative camber
added to the fronts. Ive spoken with the garage and they are happy to rectify
next Monday. So all good.

Popped back down to Simpson autos, and I'm glad I took the advice to do so,
The car turns in faster and handles great. The ride has definitely been made a
fraction harder. So I'm going to check my spring rates and adjust the coilovers
accordingly. Here's the new specs.

Cheers Pal

Yes, we will sort out our south meet soon.

So the TOM's rear bumper has been finished by Glass Fibre Products.
And is being sent down to DPM.

Image
Image

Something that I really should have inspected a while ago was a leak into the
boot, every now and then there would be condensation on the boot carpet.
Then one day after a pretty thorough clean it was soaked inside.
I removed the boot carpet, insulation lining and chipboard plate.
( they were all soaked, I had to wring the insulation panel out ! )

The boot floor underneath was luckily like the rest of the car, rust free and in
top condition ( looks like its been sealed in the past ? )

Image

So I mopped up the remaining water and cleaned the boot floor.
However inside of the rear of the arches on both sides had this ....

Image

As you can see under the vent there is a small amount of surface rust,
I had aimed to treat myself a few weeks ago. But realised that the rear bumper
needed to be removed to take the vents out. So I'm going to take a day off
and treat at DPM whilst Dave removes the rear bumper.
Start with sanding it back, hoovering it all out. Kurust treatment, sand that
back a little, Then primer and stonechip.

Ive found the culprit ! the OEM bolt holes for the Rev 3 spoiler !

Image

When the cars in at DPM ill get him to plug with sealant and make new rubber
spoiler plates to seal 100%.

Looking at mid April, cant wait :D

So, last Monday, I dropped the car off at DPM and stayed the day myself to
do a selection of small jobs that would be ideal when they had the bodywork
off. First off we removed the rear lights and rear bumper. This allowed us
access to remove the rear bumper vents and I could tackle the surface rust
deep in the rear arch pockets.

Image

First I started by sanding back the surface rust with p800 grit pads, then blew
it out with an airline. I also sanded back with an air sander some of the easier
to reach parts to get back to bare metal.

Image
Image
Image

Then applied KuRust and left to dry.

Image

Once dry this was then re-sanded and again cleaned the surface with the airline
on both sides. Once area had been prepared for the stone chip paint,
I masked up the area and covered all close surfaces with painters paper
( Not shown in pics )

Image

And now painted up, The stone chip still shows like there is surface rust below
its paint. However its sanded back to almost bare metal and Dave said that
its a good job and will protect it just fine and stop progression.

Image
Image
Image

Next up was a job that I had wanted to tackle for a long time, rear lights to
be refreshed ! Dave got me on the job of sanding and using scotchbrite to
prep the surface for paint.

Image

Then his other half whilst handling business in the office did a fine job of
masking up the areas to paint back to the black they looked like when they
left the factory.

Image

Meanwhile, out with the old and in with the new. OEM + PP spats compared
to TOM's rear bumpers.

Image
Image

However, whilst test fitting....

Image
Image
Image

The fitment is appalling, The PP spats I purchased were also from Glass Fibre
Products and tbh they were never amazing fitment either. But this is a different
scale. Dave said to fix this, it would have to be cut and new panels of fibre
glass sectioned in and smoothed off, In all around 5 hours of work !

So after not much deliberating we decided to not proceed with this bumper and
send back for a full refund. At the time of writing this I have yet to send back
as I'm waiting for a friend who has a good relationship with a courier to
get me a quote to send back to GFP. ( Costing me more money )

However I have purchased / commissioned a new TOM's rear from MR2 Ben,
as his is actually moulded from a genuine rear bumper, so fitment should be
a lot better !

Now onto the front, and more fettling then would be assumed would be needed
from a genuine Bomex front bumper .....

Image
Image

I decided a long time ago that if I went with this bumper that I was going to
smooth off the central nose hole. And I'm glad I did.

Image
Image
Image
Image

And one front shot showing fitment.

Image

But as usual, modification is needed, and we had to cut down the OEM front
side strips to fit the Bomex's smaller sections.

Image

Which will fit in the gaps provided that also needed work to line up perfectly.

Image

But the front is now in primer and ready along with the other parts ready to
paint.

1. Side skirts being repainted due to stone chips
2. Rear nearside spoiler pod being strengthened and repainted (crack in paint)
3. Rear grill cut and removed and treated for protection

Image
Image

And then yesterday Dave sent me shots of the rear lights freshly painted,
along with the front side lights which he has ghosted ( they were faded and
looked old and poor )

Image
Image

:D

More photos to come along with the work being carried out by DPM, hopefully
the new TOM's bumper should be with them by end of this week.

Coming along nicely mate. I don't rate Glass-fibre Products either.

I had a Bomex rear spoiler from them and it rubbed on the rear quarter on the passenger side, despite "excellent fit" stated in the add. #-o

Had to use neoprene strip to stop it rubbing the paint.

Cheers mate, yes I cant wait to see her once she's done at DPM.
And then onto building a functional chassis mounted splitter :D

Nigel @ GFP is a bit strange also, he kept texting me after telling me he
would send me pics of my bumper fitted on his, 1. as if I cared and 2.
to try and prove a point it could be made to fit.
Didn't seem to understand that it would have cost me near £250 to fix it !

Oh well, looks like my genuine moulded one from MR2 Ben is being delivered
tomorrow.

Yeah, I got the impression he didn't really care my spoiler didn't fit properly. He just changed the subject and sent me pics of some do-luck copy skirts he was offering for sale

He'd been paid for the Bomex and that was all that mattered.

Bryson's Greddy skirts from GFP were also too short for the car.

Hope your Tom's bumper from MR2 Ben is ok mate, I had a TRD spoiler from him and the spoiler posts cracked along the join lines :(

Funnily enough thats whats having to be repaired on my spoiler pod,
although mine was second hand, however could have been produced by them.
Yeah fingers crossed its all good.

And she's finished !

But first some remaining shots from DPM when coming close to getting to the
end of the work. The GFP rear TOM's was sent back and the MR2Ben
was delivered, Dave said the fitment was much much better, but as you can
see, still needed work !

Image
Image

This section was cut out and a new piece put back in, I know fibreglass is not
easy, But surely these companies can do better ?

Anyway, then I started to receive some better pics :D

Image
Image
Image

And a little change to the sidelight / indicator lenses

Image

So I got the call from Dave that she was ready and collected her last Friday.
Massively happy with the work. New front and rear bumpers, skirts repainted
due to stone chips, TRD wing pod repainted due to a crack, rear lights painted.
Sidelights tinted, and a few other little things here and there, Oh and the rear
grill being cut and removed, and I'm so glad we did. Looks so much better.
But hey judge for yourself......

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

In my mind its not Aesthetically finished from this latest stage until the front
splitter is made. However I still have some other plans in the looks department
so is it ever really done ? lol. #-o
