Got a rev 2 turbo its not boosting as it should it's completely stock had a smoke test done this morning all was well
The standard boost guage is only going up half way up the meter on boost but it's on and off suddenly boosting then it's not etc feels underpowered
Any insight to what it could be causing this?

Nice to see another local member!
Don't rely on the stock boost gauge, it's pants! Well known for telling random rubbish.
If you can, grab a cheap aftermarket one, plug in the boost gauge and even just run a tube through the window into the car if you want a very quick test of what psi you're actually running.
Does the car feel on off with boost or are you just going off the gauge?
Have you done the paperclip trick to see if any codes are stored?
If yes then next would be to look for boost leaks with a spray bottle of soapy water.

Re: Rev2 turbo boost problem
I'm glad to be back in a another mr2
Well it feels quite underpowered the EML light flashes on and off randomly when then the factory boost guage works intermittently but only going up half way up the guage
I can hear the turbo spooling but it sounds quite tame if that makes sense?
We had a smoke test done there was no leaks from what we could tell but the exhaust does have a slight blow I've noticed
Everything on the car is standard so I'm sure some of the parts will be original I'll buy a aftermarket boost guage and try that any recommendations which one to buy?
Also being new to a turbo mr2 wheres the beat place to buy parts like boost pipes hoses and general upgrades ?

Re: Rev2 turbo boost problem
Pump some air into the wastegate accuator to make sure it's opening and closing properly . Everyone slates the boost gauge but I recon they work ok
Re: Rev2 turbo boost problem
Have you done the paperclip test?
Next thing I would be checking are the ignition componants.
Then, check the ECU. It's located in the boot. Open it up and check the PCB for leaking capacitors. If you're unsure post some pictures up here

Paper clip test and see what it says.
Id bet a weeks wages its sensing knock. Are you running standard unleaded or vpower? Jap imports need vpower or equivalent.
Also are you boosting when cold as this will limit the boost it will hit.
Could be numerous issues and that ecu paperclip test will give more indication.
