Coilovers

Post by benjo »

I know there’s plenty of threads/posts about coilovers but they
Don’t give the answer I want and all go of on a tangent
So is anyone running this wheel setup with coilovers
And did you have any problems?
Rear 245/40/17 9j et35
Front 215/40/17 8j et35

Wheel offsets will effect the fitment, not just width.
Camber also plays a part, particularly at the front.
So really depends on the above.

For reference, my front wheels are 17x8 et38 with 215/40/17 tyres. I needed 5mm spacers to clear my Tein Super Street coilovers, making them et33.

No prob fella.

Yeah, got the MR2 out of the garage after it’s been sat in there for a month.

It’s covered in a thick layer of dust, but enjoyed taking it out for an hour or so, seeing as the roads and weather were dry. Everything spot on now. :thumleft:

Badly needs washing though!

My rear wheels are 9x17 et38 - 245/40/17 tyres. The wheels are fitted with the same 5mm spacers making them et33. I can’t remember if these were actually required or not, and that the interferance was only at the front. I fitted them anyway to make et33 all round :thumleft:

I have nothing in the pipeline for my car, and haven’t done anything to it in months.

Hi buddy, no spacers, no rubbing or fouling of suspension

I've had this set up on 2 mr2's now and it's on my v6 mr2 :)

I previously ran 17x 8j front and 9j rear ET35 with no rubbing etc either or spacers.

So with this setup but 245/40 would I get away with not rolling arches?
Any pics of stance?

You will need to roll the small lip for it not to rub/catch on larger bumps.

This can be done with a heat gun and a rubber mallet. Heat the paint up really, really well, then hit the lip upwards. Don’t flatten it entirely as it can trap water and rust out. Takes about 10-15 minutes a side.

how so? the wheel clears the coilover tube / spring so a tyre providing not bugling over the rim shouldn't have width issues and height wise there isn't anything above it to hit (other than the arch inners) . Just curious what stops it working :)

Hi buddy

No spacers and no rubbing on front.

Rear needed an arch roll, not completely flat, and the guy from arch enemy put in some sealer too when he rolled the arch.

No scrubbing on any speed bumps or fouling on full lock either ;) \:D/

So fitted my miester r coilovers today and had some issues with
Front, I found the wheel rubbing so put camber bolts on gave it max
Positive camber on bolts and then max negative camber on
Top of the strut and check camber with a level which now shows
Perfectly plum, I’m worried about lack of negative camber ????
