[Mk2] [NA] Air temp sensor location for aftermarket induction

Post by Bear87 »

Hi guys,

So I finally got a cheap ebay induction kit on my daily rev1 NA. The only reason I changed it was to loose the air box restriction and get that great induction noise the 3sge makes.

Fitted it today all is well however the universal kit came with a hole and grommet with a piece of hose that i fitted onto the vacuum hose like the oem set up.

Im left with the air temp sensor. Obviously i can drill it into the pipe but does location matter? I've left it hanging by the filter for now and car drives fine. What would be the long term issues?

Thanks as always

Not really, the temperature inside the airbox is not going to be all that different to the temperature immediately outside it. The K&N kit has a hole in the filter for it to sit in which is nice.

I'd probably make the hole if you have the time to do it as it's a neater install.

The wire to it failed on my old NA (Rev4) and I didn't even notice until I removed the filter to clean it! The IAT provides intake temp info so the ECU can make small adjustments, the MAP sensor is far more important.

Thanks Gazza I thought as much with it not making a massive difference.
I just didn't want to travel to pick up a big drill bit today as i was already soaked by the time i finished install.
I will finish it off over the weekend :thumleft:
The previous owner obviously couldnt be bothered to change the filter in the last 10 years :pale: so glad I got round to it today.

Sorry bud keeping it for if i sell the car in the future. However its about 5 boxs in total and it takes up a huge amount of room. Also the v6's inlet will be in a diffrent position to the 3sge. You would prob be best finding a universal kit that you can bend around into the correct location.

Have you contacted paul woods? He specialised in v6 conversions he will know what will fit best!
